The role of the CIO is evolving. This is not something that’s happening at a glacial pace – it’s a rapidly moving process that’s showing no signs of slowing down. The CIO is now a key player in both the C-Suite and the enterprise, influencing strategy, HR, training, customer service and other aspects outside of the traditional remit of the role. More importantly, the CIO is turning into someone with the ability to reposition the IT function – turning it away from the archaic role of prison warden and into a role that more resembles community policing, engaging with users and collaborating with them to get the best possible results.
