DSN Overview P4-Model of Worship

  1. 1. Hebrews 10:22-25
  2. 2. Love: Faith & Hope in Action Hebrews 10:19-25
  3. 3. After defining the basis for the appeal in vv 19–21, the Application Section is organized into a relational triad 1. faith (10:22) is celebrated in 11:1–40 2. hope (10:23) is expressed through perseverance in 12:1–13, and 3. love (10:24–25) furnishes the key to the conclusion of the sermon in 12:14–13:21. RELATIONAL TRIAD = Path to LIFE through Christ
  4. 4. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess (NIV) 23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope (NKJV) GOD’S SALVATION FROM DEATH – the coming Glorification at the DAY OF THE LORD (for study guide #3, b) Hebrews 9:28so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him. “HOPE” = Eternal Life (Glorification)
  5. 5. 1 Corinthians 15:51-58: • 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed (glorification) — 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”55 “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”56….Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the “Day” = Second Coming
  6. 6. Let us (continue in) – Works/Deeds: 1. Faith (up): Communion & Baptism 2. Hope (in): Profession & Perseverance 3. Love (out): Good Deeds, Meeting Together & ENCOURAGING ONE ANOTHER! (THE CHURCH) Faith without works is dead! The Path to LIFE (through Christ) WITHIN THE CHURCH
  7. 7. 25Let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. “to call to one’s side, to comfort, to console, to strengthen.” Basically, to “put courage in” John 14:16: • 15“If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Comforter to be with you forever— 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. ” “ENCOURAGE” = Put courage in Same work as Holy Spirit
  8. 8. “24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another” Hebrews 3:12-13: • “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” “ONE ANOTHER” = FOCUS on THE CHURCH
  9. 9. “24And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25Let us ( ) not give up meeting together, (Study Guide #3, a) • Acts 1:14: These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. • Acts 2:1: When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place • Acts 2:46: So continuing with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church those who were being saved.” “Meeting Together” = ONE ACCORD
  10. 10. 1 Thess. 1:3: 3We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance (or perseverance) inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. James 2:14-26: • 17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. • 22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. • 24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. • 26so faith without deeds is dead.” Faith, Hope, Love = Works & Path to LIFE Without = DEATH
