  2. 2. Water Treatment in Power Generation Facilities • Significant volumes of water are used in power plants for cooling, scrubbing, or boiler feed water purposes. • Proper filtration must be provided in order to treat the waste effluent.

  6. 6. Scrubber Effluent Treatment Scrubbing liquid from wet scrubbers in coal fired power plants contain heavy metals, ash, and soot. Current Treatment systems rely heavily on chemical dosing, handling, and sludge disposal -> $$$ OPEX • SiC Membranes have a smaller footprint with 99% recovery rate-> reduced OPEX • High flux & robustness can handle highly fluctuating heavy metal concentrations to meet regulatory compliance in 1 step • Can handle highly corrosive scrubber liquid
  7. 7. Cooling Tower Filtration Circulating process water is cooled and re-used to extract heat in condensers. Variation in water quality, source, and heat transfer surfaces subject to corrosion, scaling, and microbiological fouling • SiC Membranes can be used for sidestream ultrafiltration to continuously filter TSS and Mircobioligical organisms • Ideal in scenarios with high bio- fouling potential -> can be cleaed with any chemical or strong oxidizer
  8. 8. Boiler Feed Water Treatment Feed water of high purity is required to ensure proper heat transfer in a steam generation facility. Reduction of impurities entering the boiler system reduces scale buildup on heat transfer surfaces which would also reduce fouling. • RO system is used to treat feed water -> SiC Membrane Ultrafiltration used as pre-treatment before RO system • Filters TSS and TOC to reduce subsequent RO membrane fouling • Can be accomplished in a single step without any added chemicals, reducing the OPEX over its lifespan

Boiler Blowdown Treatment Blowdown water has TDS & heavy metals that need to be filtered out and treated for re-use • SiC Membrane UF can handle varied feed conditions with upsets in TDS/TSS in feed water • Can retain fine particulate and heavy metals at high flux conditions • Effective pre-treatment + RO solution to conventional treatment options -> reduced chemical reagents, process steps, and OPEX
