  1. 1. SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF WOMEN AT WORKPLACE
  2. 2. Introduction:  Sexual Harassment affects all women in some form or the other. Lewd remarks, touching, wolf-whistles, staring looks are part of any woman’s life, so much so that it is dismissed as normal.  Sexual harassment is the expression of male power over women that sustain patriarchal relations in our male dominant society.
  3. 3. Introduction:  Sexual harassment is also a form of human rights violation, and is an infringement on their life and liberty as defined in the Constitution of India.  Studies have found out that sexual harassment is still endemic, often hidden, and present in all kinds of institutions, organizations, government departments and private and corporate sector.
  4. 4. Legal Definition: Sexual harassment includes such unwelcome sexually determined behaviour, as physical contacts and advances, sexually coloured remarks, showing pornography and sexual demands whether by words, gestures or actions.
  5. 5. Impact on Victim:  Anger  Reduction in work performance  Unreasonable stress  Lose job
  6. 6. Impact on Organization or Institution:  Increased absenteeism  Recruiting and retention problems  Loss of productivity  Lowering of morale  Mistrust and frustration
  7. 7. Why the women remain silent about Sexual Harassment:  Fear of Social implications  Nothing will be done about it  It will be trivialized  Complainant will be subjected to ridicule  Fear of Reprisals
  8. 8. Sexual Harassment Policy:  Generate public opinion against sexual harassment.  Environment without gender bias.  How and whom to complain.
  9. 9. Sexual Harassment Policy:  Strict rules regarding harassment.  Appropriate action against guilty.  Prohibition in college and workplace.
  10. 10. Prohibition of Sexual Harassment:  Right to work in a free environment.  Responsibilities of Employer.  Be familiar with regulations/policies. Prohibition of Sexual Harassment:
  11. 11. Prevention of Sexual Harassment:  Institutions adopt comprehensive sexual harassment policy. (Given By Hon’ble Supreme Court)  Start Joint Control Room (JCR).  Constitute internal or local complaints committee under the Act – 2006.
  12. 12. Prevention of Sexual Harassment:  Workshops and training programmes at regular intervals.  Display notices in various places.  Say NO!
