Protecting Intellectual Property

  1. 1. Precautions• Copyrighted material – If it is not your own original content or if you haven’t purchased the content, you are infringing a copyright – Don’t include photos, figures, etc. that you don’t own• Trademarks – Anything that identifies a source of good and services – The sooner you use your trademark the better – Are you infringing another trademark? © 2012 Kunzler Law Group
  2. 2. Precautions• Patentable material – Public disclosure before filing a patent • You immediately lose all ability to file in a foreign country • You start a 1-year grace period in the US in which to file a patent application – File at least a provisional patent application before the disclosure • A quality provisional takes time, but it’s better to have a lower quality provisional than to disclose too early © 2012 Kunzler Law Group
