Parking (LEEP) Campaign Awards
2. 2015 Every Building Conference & Expo | June 28-30, 2015 LEEP Phase 2 Awards
LEEP Campaign Overview
Exterior lighting often provides some of the easiest, most cost-effective energy-
saving opportunities for buildings – but challenges exist to realizing this potential
at scale. The LEEP Campaign:
• Sponsored by BOMA, GPC, IFMA and IPI , with technical support from US DOE
‒ Launched September 2012
• Offers awards, recognition, and support to encourage adoption of proven high-
efficiency lighting in parking
• Approached goal of achieving at least 500M sq ft of high efficiency parking
lighting installed or planned by March 2015
‒ Actual achieved was 472M sq ft
‒ Awards in many categories
• Campaign is being extended – next award event:
‒ 2016 International Parking Institute Conference & Expo, May 17 – 20, 2016

Editor's Notes
The overall program retrofit 8 garages in 5 locations and several surface lots with LED fixtures and sensor technology. The LEDs replaced various vintages of Metal Halide and Sodium fixtures. The total energy reduction from all sites was 4.55 Million KWhs resulting in a 79.8% Net Reduction in energy use. (Baseline usage was 5.71 Million KWhs)
The best results were attained at the Harrison Garage in Beaumont, TX where a reduction of 791,686 KWhs was achieved resulting in an 87% Net Reduction in energy use. (Baseline usage was 913,739 KWhs)
Installed 2,488 Induction Fixtures in 2 Phases
18 Cantonment Areas
Replaced 250 – 400W HID with 100W Induction
Estimated Annual Energy Savings = 2,376,895 KWH
Percent Reduction = 68.5%
Existing HID fixtures powered through our local municipality with no lighting controls were replaced with low wattage LED fixtures. The new LED lights were placed on a photo cell away from existing landscaping drastically reducing the operating hours. A new electrical feed was run to each fixture originating from the school eliminating the inflated kWh charge by the local utility company. The energy management system now controls the LED fixtures permitting customized lighting schedules to be created for activities. The HID lights operated approximately 12 hours each day without controls. The new LED fixtures operate 4 hours each day with the new lighting configuration. Implementing new light fixtures, relocating the photo cell, powering the new fixtures through the schools districts utilities and tying the energy management system into the parking lot lights each contributed to the overall savings for the school district.
