A MATTER OF FAITH 1 Peter 3:13-16 Many of us have an inherited religion. What do we mean by an inherited religion? A simple explanation of an inherited religion.
WHY DO YOU BELIEVE? Do you have an inherited religion? Is one religion as good as another? What if you moved some place where there was no Church of Christ?
Our Text Admonishes Us to Be Prepared to Tell Others…What is involved in becoming and remaining a Christian? A. Faith (Hebrews 11:1 & 6) “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the con- viction of things not seen. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
B. Confession of Christ (Matt. 10:32-33)“Everyone therefore who shall confess Mebefore men, I will also confess him beforeMy Father who is in heaven. But whoevershall deny Me before men, I will also denyhim before My Father who is in heaven.”C. Repentance (Luke 24:46-47) “And Hesaid to them, ‘Thus it is written, that theChrist should suffer and rise again fromthe dead the third day; and that repent-ance for forgiveness of sins should beproclaimed to all the nations, beginning inJerusalem.’”
D. Baptism (Acts 2:38) “And Peter said tothem, ‘Repent, and be baptized in thename of the name of Jesus Christ for theforgiveness of your sins; and you shallreceive the gift of the Holy Spirit.’”(Gal.3:26-27) “For you are all sons of Godthrough faith in Christ Jesus. For all of youwho were baptized into Christ haveclothed yourself with Christ.”
E. Live a faithful life until death (Rev. 14:13) “And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, ‘Write, Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’ ‘Yes’ says the Spirit, ‘that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them.’”Faithful service involves many things:Being a servant (John 14:15) “If you love Me, you will keep my commandments.”
Attendance of worship services (Heb.10:24-25) “and let us consider how tostimulate one another to love and gooddeeds, not forsaking our own assemblingtogether, as is the habit of some, butencouraging one another; and all themore, as you see the day drawing near.”
Giving as prospered (1 Cor. 16:1-2) “Nowconcerning the collection for the saints, asI directed the churches of Galatia, so doyou also. On the first day of the week leteach one of you put aside and save, as hemay prosper, that no collections be madewhen I come.”
Helping others (Gal. 6:10) “So then whilewe have opportunity, let us do good to allmen, and especially to those who are ofthe household of the faith.”Loving fellow Christians (1 John 4:7-11)“Beloved, let us love one another, for loveis of God; and everyone who loves is bornof God and knows God. The one whodoes not love does not know God, for Godis love.
By this the love of God was manifested inus, that God has sent His only begottenSon into the world so that we might livethrough Him. In this is love, not that weloved God, but that He loved us and sentHis Son to be the propitiation for our sins.Beloved, if God so loved us, we also oughtto love one another.”
Our Christian Lives Are One of the best ways to teach others.Matt. 5:14-16 “You are the light of theworld. A city set on a hill cannot behidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put itunder a basket, but on a lampstand; and itgives light to all who are in the house. Letyour light so shine before men in such away that they may see your good worksand glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
