Elizabeth Cady Stanton

  1. 1. Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s suffragist and people’s rights advocate
  2. 3. She was born to wealth and privilege in Johnstown, NY in 1815. When one of her brothers died, she tried to do everything he had done and might accomplish in life.
  3. 5. Elizabeth Cady married abolitionist Henry Brewster Stanton in 1840. She had the words “to obey” omitted from her lines.
  4. 7. Stanton met Lucretia Mott and together in 1848 they organized the world’s first women’s rights convention in Seneca Falls, NY
  5. 8. In 1851 she partnered with Susan B. Anthony, and together they worked toward suffrage and equal legal rights for the next half-century.
