  2. 2. Al’s Day 2012This year marked the fourth anniversary of Al’s Day. Al’s Day is GolinHarris’ annualworldwide community service initiative that honors founder and chairman AlGolin’s dedication to service. It is held each year on, or around, Al’s birthday,June 19.In 2012, more than 600 employees from around the world devoted nearly 7,000 hoursto a wide variety of community and charitable organizations.As a truly global company, we use technology to stay connected across continents– with our clients and with each other. But, we know the importance ofinteracting, engaging and connecting in person. So, many of our initiatives thisyear centered around the convergence of high tech and high touch.We also shared a 3S for Success Guide (shown at right) to encourage officesto share their high touch experiences on Al’s Day in a high tech way. MiamiMiami kicked off this year’s annual community service initiative by donating $20,000in pro-bono public relations expertise and support to The Education Fund, a non-profitorganization that believes that the quality of public schools must be the top priority forMiami-Dade County. The Education Fund held its annual silent art auction, “The Art ofFound Objects,” boasting 500 attendees and raising nearly $75,000 for the Miami-DadeCounty Public School System.The Miami team provided media relations in English and Spanish, event planning, andgeneral PR consulting for the second consecutive year and secured placements in majornews outlets and blogs across South Florida including: The Miami Herald, Diario LasAmericas, NBC Miami, WLRN.org, Beached Miami and KnightArts.org, among others.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day
  7. 7. San FranciscoThe San Francisco office of GolinHarris volunteered at two Ronald McDonald HouseCharities (RMHC) in the Bay Area. The team in Palo Alto cleaned the kitchen and wrappedpresents for guests and their families while the team in San Francisco crushed cans forrecycling and yard landscaping. The two teams then met for lunch and shared stories ofsupport for families of children helped by RMHC.
  8. 8. FrankfurtThe Frankfurt team took part in the 20th annual J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge, whichbrought together 68,585 participants from a series-record 2,761 companies. The teamraised money for organizations devoted to helping the disabled.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day

LondonOn June 14, the London team spent the day with Kids Company, a non-profit organizationthat provides practical, emotional and educational support to 17,000 vulnerable inner-citychildren across London. The team participated in activities such as music, art, circus andanimation at the Ark Academy, one of the country’s top performing academy groups.
  10. 10. ShanghaiOn June 14, World Blood Donor Day, the Shanghai team volunteered at a local blood drivein support of client Zespri New Zealand Kiwifruit’s CSR activities. The Shanghai Food& Nutrition team also encouraged other GH clients to donate products in support of theblood drive.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day
  11. 11. DallasThe Dallas office volunteered at Dallas Life – a non-profit organization designed to meetthe needs of homeless men, women, children and families. The team helped to preparemeals for distribution services and lent a hand in helping residents research job leads anddraft resumés.

AtlantaOn June 19, the Atlanta Office visited Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House to paint a bright,lively mural for its facility through an organization called The Foundation for Hospital Art.Established in 1984, the foundation is dedicated to softening the hospital environmentwith colorful paintings, wall murals and ceiling tiles. Participants painted pre-drawn,color-coded designs, then the artwork is touched-up and donated to the organization of thesponsor’s choice, ours being Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day

BucharestIn the Electrolux mansion outside Bucharest, the team, along with invited food bloggers,cooked a very special meal for senior citizens cared for by the The Princess Margaretof Romania Foundation. Currently active in six countries, The Foundation createspartnerships and cooperative relationships with local and international organizations andcompanies to bring together the resources, skills and talents of people from many sectorsof society.
  14. 14. New YorkThe New York team spent the afternoon at the Columbus Clubhouse of the MadisonSquare Boys & Girls Club, where they each paired with a child to help with after-schoolactivities. A founding member of the Boys & Girls Club of America, Madison currentlyserves 5,000 youth ages 6 to 18 at four Clubhouses in the Bronx, Brooklyn and at CampMadison in Kingston, New York.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day

SingaporeThe Singapore team partnered with the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD), anon-profit that works towards the integration of people with disabilities into mainstreamsociety through programs that adress rehabilitation, employment, training, education,consultation and assessment in assistive technology, day care and social service support.Working with SPD, the Singapore team spent two consecutive afternoons cleaning,organizing and prepping the flat of a disabled elderly woman, suffering from spinal injury.
  16. 16. Los AngelesOn June 29, the LA staff worked with TreePeople at Ascot Hills Park for the third year in arow. Working in two locations, the Los Angeles team cared for and watered approximately75 existing trees in Los Angeles County on behalf of Tree People, a non-profit organizationdedicated to uniting the power of trees, people and technology to grow a sustainablefuture for Los Angeles.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day
  17. 17. Washington, D.C.The D.C. team volunteered at a local YMCA, helping with a wide variety of tasks, frompreparing the club for summer camp to helping clean the grounds and more. The YMCAis one of the largest social service agencies serving Washington D.C., suburban Marylandand northern Virginia. Every year through 17 branches and program centers, the Yprovides opportunities in wellness, aquatics, youth sports, summer camp, child care andmore for more than 200,000 people.
  18. 18. DubaiThe Dubai office dedicated its Al’s day to the facilities management staff who make theworking and living environment clean, safe and functional. Working in a tower with morethan 40 offices and 75 apartments, the Dubai team invited all of the office employees andresidents of the tower to donate clothing items. Collected items were distributed to thefacilities management staff, and the success of the clothing drive was celebrated with areception on July 12.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day

Orange CountyThe Orange County team volunteered at its adopted charity partner, Share Our Selves.Share Our Selves was established in 1970 to provide food, clothing and emergencyfinancial aid for housing, transportation, prescriptions and children’s needs for the mostserious concerns of the poor residing in Orange County. The team worked the food line,packing groceries and taking care of requests for people who are homeless and in need offood and financial aid.

ChicagoOn July 20, in promotion of “Share the Shore,” the Chicago team spanned the LakefrontTrail to help educate users on practical etiquette to help improve the lakefront experienceand safety of the trail for all Chicagoans. The team distributed more than 750 Share theShore water bottles and nearly 1,000 temporary tattoos, stenciled 100 spray chalk imagesspanning the three-mile trail area and collected more than 20 bags of trash helping tofurther beautify the shore.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day

Hong KongOn July 25, the Hong Kong office put its culinary sensibilities to the test and participatedin a team building cooking competition to prepare lunch for children at the ChangingYoung Lives Foundation. The Foundation is an organization that has been dedicated tohelping underprivileged children in Hong Kong since 1950; providing care, educationaltools, games and activities to young boys and girls. The Hong Kong team prepared andshared a gourmet lunch with the children, aged 6 to 15, including lasagna, caramelpopcorn and fruit salad. They then spent time making puzzles, reading books and teachingthe children bilingual Cantonese and English exercises. To celebrate a successful Al’s Day,staff members also donated presents to the children to take home.

StockholmOn August 24th, the Stockholm team visited Stora Sköndal – a complex of retirementhomes – where the team divided into five groups to create a high tech, high touchexperience with the senior residents. They initiated Skype meetings with family andrelatives, streamed music from Spotify, and helped the residents relive old memories usingGoogle to search for old pictures of their home towns, pictures of places they’ve visitedthroughout their lives and historic anecdotes allowing them to share their life stories. Theresidents and the staff of Stora Sköndal were thrilled with the team’s contribution andinvited them back next year to do it again.GolinHarris 2012 Al’s Day
