Water and wealth poland

  1. 1. Information about rainfall in Poland The Polish climate is marked by a large variability of the weather within one year. The annual sum of rainfall in Poland is 500 mm - 1000 mm.
  2. 2. RIVERS The biggest rivers in Poland are: 1. Vistula River (Wisła)-1047 m 2. Odra River-854 m 3. Warta River-808 m Wisła is the biggest River in Poland. It rises at Barania Góra in Silesia Beskids. It empties into the Baltic Sea.

  6. 6. THE MOST FAMOUS LAKES  Hańcza-the deepest lake in Poland  Śniardwy-the largest lake in Poland They are located in northern part of Poland.  Morskie oko - has been recognized by the journalists of The Wall Street Journal as one of the five most beautiful lakes in the World.

  10. 10. Baltic Sea In Poland is one sea- Baltic Sea. This sea is mediterranean sea. It is very different than other seas. Baltic sea is shallow and a little salty. Salty water flows through the Denmark Strait and fresh water flows through Wisła and other river.

  12. 12. Cieplice It’s one of the most popular health resorts in Poland. Hot springs found in Cieplice are the hottest in Poland. Their temperature reaches 90 C. Cieplice tries to make use of this gift from nature.
  13. 13. Bukowina Tatrzańska One of the biggest in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe recreation and spa complex.
  14. 14. HYDROELECTRIC The hydroelectric power plants and dams are also very important. In Poland there are 128 large hydro power plants and 366 small plants.
  15. 15. DAMS Dams are the most eco-friendly way to produce electricity. In Poland there are about 20 dams .
  16. 16. IMPORTANCE OF RIVERS AS TRADE AND COMMUNICATION ROUTES Inland water transport is used in Poland to a very small extent. The main inland routes lead along our main rivers - Wisła, Odra, Warta and Noteć.
  17. 17. SPRINGS FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT Medicinal water are found in many areas of Poland at different depths. A lot of curative waters are in spas and places in southern part of Poland. There are more than 70 spas and towns with curative waters. They are used for baths, inhalations, drinking cures and for the preparation of medicines.
  18. 18. SPRINGS FOR BEAUTY CARE For cosmetic purposes mainly oligocene and thermal waters are used . Mineral water, including Oligocene water and water from the jurassic period are used for the manufacture of creams, lotions, masks. Thermal waters have medical properties.
  19. 19. SOURCES OF FRESH WATER FOR BOTTLING Bottled water always comes from underground resources. The most famous companies which use water for bottling are Jurajska, Żywiec Zdrój and Dobrowianka.
  20. 20. Beautiful water places in Poland Every year many Polish people spend their free time by the water. The most popular places :  Masurian Lakes Districts  Baltic Sea  Elblag Canal  Hel Peninsula
  21. 21. MASURIAN LAKES DISTRICT Located in the northern part of Poland, the Masurian Lake district is also often called “ A land of a thousand lakes”. It has the biggest concentration of lakes in Poland, with 15% of area covered by water.
  22. 22. The region includes the largest lake in Poland called Śniardwy. The resort towns include the most popular Giżycko and Mikołajki, Węgorzewo, Ryn, Pisz and Iława. Giżycko is located on the shore of Lake Niegocin. Masurian Lake District is the area known for its pure, unspoilt nature. The Łuknajno Lake nature reserve (part of Masurian Landscape Park) is a protected wetland site under the Ramsar convention, as well as being designated by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve.

Elblag Canal It is a navigable waterway in the province of Warmia and Mazury, running five ramps that allow you to quickly overcome the sections between the lakes and the difference in water level. There are channel, where ships, instead of flowing on water, glide through the grass. Outside the United States there is no the same around the world.
  24. 24. Międzyzdroje In the first week of July we can meet Polish celebrities of film, theatre and television walking down the promenade of stars. The Promenade was founded in 1996, when the first Star Festival celebrities left their handprints in the pavement. It is modeled on Hollywood Boulevard and Avenue of Stars in Cannes. It's the largest such festival this side of Baltic Sea.
  25. 25. The Hel Peninsula This is a 35-km-long peninsula in northern Poland separating the Bay of Puck from the open Baltic Sea. Hel is a popular tourist destination. Other towns, ports, and tourist resorts are Jurata, Jastarnia, Kuźnica, Chałupy, and Władysławowo. This is an important center for water recreation.
  26. 26. SWIMMING Most popular water sport in Poland is swimming. We’ve got a lot swimming pools and aquaparks here. The greatest Polish swimmers of all time was Paweł Korzeniowski and Otylia Jędrzejczak. They won a lot of competitions around the world.
  27. 27. CANOEING Doing sport and nature sightseeing at the same time. Canoeing is very popular in Poland especially in the summer or spring. Even young people with their families like doing it for relaxing .
  28. 28. SKI JUMPING Participants must go the longest jump from the ski jump. We have many very good ski jumpers for example Adam Małysz, Kamil Stoch, Piotr Żyła.
  29. 29. CROSS COUNTRY - SKIING We have a great Polish cross country skier Justyna Kowalczyk who has been competing since 2000. Kowalczyk is a double Olympic Champion and a double World Champion.
  30. 30. SAILING Sailing is a discipline and water tourism including yachting motorboat. Sailing can be divided into racing and tourism marine and yacht and windsurfing.
