Higher Ambition: How Great Leaders Create Economic and Social Value
Higher Ambition:How GreatLeaders CreateEconomic andSocial ValueDiscover 5 ways leadingorganizations are optimizingboth their performance andpeople without sacrificingone for the other.
Learn how to: • Build enduring enterprises that solve for both people and profits. • Forge winning strategies fit for your company’s unique capabilities. • Energize and align diverse global firms. • Improve leadership throughout your organization. Economic value or social value? Performance or people? However you phrase it, many corporate leaders have seen these as opposing goals, believing that a company can’t serve both masters. Choosing which goal to prioritize may have worked in the past, but today’s leaders must win on all fronts – people, customers, communities and shareholders. The question is how. This eBook answers the question by citing successful leaders featured in Harvard Business School professor Michael Beer’s on-demand webinar, Higher Ambition: How Great Leaders Create Economic and Social Value. Professor Beer reveals how these ambitious executives are following 5 special disciplines to do good for society and still do well in performance.2

Ed Ludwig, Becton Dickinson Build the future one quarter at a time. Continuous improvement rather than a ‘quick fix.’ Doug Conant, Campbell Soup5

Discipline 4: Commit to collective leadership Drive career development. It’s often about unlocking people you’ve got… working out how to put them in a different place or help them build on strengths… they haven’t quite realized how to use. Peter Sands, Standard Charter Bank Develop next-generation leadership. I’m cultivating the next generation of leaders personally in a hands-on way. Doug Conant, Campbell Soup Build a true team at the top. A lot smarter together. Russ Fradin, Hewitt Associates8
