“OKOA MAISHA PROJECT”
The project targets the inclusion and integration of IDUs and Teenage mothers
from Kilifi as a means of creating job opportunities for them as well as their
social inclusion and acceptability.

3. Sustainable waste management
4. Environmental conservation.
Objectives
Where Talent Lives (WTL)
•Trained 156 youth on waste handling techniques.
•Trained 40 teenage mothers on handcraft making from waste
•Conducted 1500 door to door awareness on best practices for SWM
•Conducted 20 community outreaches and teachings on SWM.
•Employed 50 youth for garbage collection paying them 300/= per day.
•Installed 2 street waste bins for the community to use.
•Distributed 500 waste bins (kenpoly drums) to households for collection.
•Closed down 14 unwanted dumping sites and planted trees on the sites.
•We make a collection of 40/= to each household per filled bag/bin.
•We have established a Micro- Finance program for the young mothers .
•We have expanded the project to Kilifi and Malindi Urban Towns.
•Accounted for the grant with highest integrity.

REVENUE
•500 households collected 40/= per collection twice a week.
•Weekly = 500 hsld x 40/= x 2 times = 40,000/=
•Monthly = 40,000/= x 4 weeks = 160,000/=
•Annually = 160,000/= x 12 months = 1,920,000/=
EXPENSES
•15 workers paid 300/= for 4 days a week.
•Weekly = 15 workers x 300/= x 4 days = 18,000/=
•Monthly = 18,000/= x 4 weeks = 72,000/=
•Annually = 72,000/= x 12 months = 864,000/=
•Refuse bags = 200,000/=
•Project’s Operational Cost = 56,000/=
•Total Expenses = 864,000/- + 200,000/- + 56,000/- = 1120,000/=
SURPLUS:- ( Ksh 1,920,000 – Ksh 1120,000) = 800,000/=
Achievements.!!
1. Deposited 150,000/= to DTB A/c for Micro-Finance program to nature
business incubators (35 beneficiaries)
2. Opened a branch in Kilifi, Employed 10 workers, bought 100 Waste bins
and working tools = 500,000/=
3. Paid rent in our new big office (Headquarters) for 6 months 2015 =
120,000/=
4. The Malindi office underway 30,000/= set aside for the arrangements,
programming and planning.
Utilization of the Surplus
Thinking different..!!
1. Equipping the 40 Trained Teenage Mothers with Tools and resources to
produce quality handcrafts for sale and earn a living.
2. Engage more IDUs in making Shanga shoes – a skill that they posses.
3. Shred, Melt and Compress plastics to produce electrical gargets and
construction materials – Plastic poles and electrical sockets
4. Secure a land and build our offices for long-term Sustainability .
