Intro presentation

  1. 1. Introduction Next Glass was founded in 2012 on the premise of using science and software to ensure beer and wine drinkers never taste another bad beverage. The Company is cataloguing the taste profiles of tens of thousands of bottles of beer and wine by chemically extracting the “DNA” of each to develop the world’s only Genome Cellar™. These pure and objective taste profiles are combined with sophisticated machine-learning software and user preference data to create an incredibly accurate recommendation and discovery engine, similar to those of revolutionary companies like Pandora, Netflix, and Amazon.
  2. 2. Science Software
  3. 3. Next Glass partnered with the David H. Murdock Research Institute to conduct preliminary tests to validate the concept. Using data produced from DHMRI’s initial tests, Next Glass was able to determine which instruments generated data useful in making recommendations to users. How does the Science work?
  4. 4. Together, these instruments produce tens of thousands of unique chemical biomarkers which Next Glass’ machine-learning algorithms use to produce accurate beer and wine recommendations for users. Next Glass’ laboratory and beer and wine storage facility are located in the new MARBIONC building at the UNC-Wilmington CREST Research Facility. How does the Science work?
  5. 5. As with Next Glass’ science, in order to validate the accuracy, repeatability, and overall effectiveness of its software, the Company retained and collaborated with Sean Owen, a world renowned expert in machine-learning. Sean has worked as a senior engineer at Google, has written books on machine-learning, and was the Lead Committer of the Apache Mahout project. Next Glass also won entry into the selective Kaggle Startup Program, which will allow some of the world’s best data scientists to collaborate with the Company as it continues to refine its existing algorithm. How does the Software work? Sophisticated machine- learning software Connects users with the rightbeer/wine Location and availability aware Rich analytics for businesses Highly targeted ad- server Elastic and scalable infrastructure
  6. 6. Consumers Once users have input beer and/or wine ratings, they can then access the powerful features of the Next Glass platform. Initially, users will enjoy four key pieces of functionality/types of search. Discover Glass Match Reverse Search Search with Friends Get recommendations based on one bottle. Users can scan a label or search manually. Users can choose their next glass of beer or wine based on ratings in their “Your Cellar” library. Only have a few beers or wines to choose from? Reverse Search will tell users which they’ll enjoy most. Allows users to combine profiles with other Next Glass members to discover drinks both will love!
  7. 7. How does Next Glass help the Consumer? 1 2 3 4 5 7 6 What beer or wine should I select from this restaurant, merchant, or grocery store? What bottle of wine would we enjoy splitting at dinner? What bottles should I select if I want to build a case of wines that are all new to me? What are my top ten favorite beers or wines around the world within a specific price range? What wine under $20 is most like my favorite $250 Opus One, and where can I buy it? What beers should I select for a party to ensure each guest has at least one they will enjoy? What small production wineries or microbreweries can I discover that carry wines or beers I would enjoy? And which will ship directly to my home? 8 I need a gift for a friend – What’s a beer or wine they’ve never tried but are certain to enjoy?
  8. 8. Businesses Once a restaurant, merchant or manufacturer becomes a Next Glass client, they will be able to utilize the following key pieces of functionality. Marketing Platform Menu/Inventory Development Analytics Dashboard
  9. 9. How does Next Glass help the Merchant? What breweries and small production wineries can I connect with that have beers and wines my customers will enjoy? And which would be interested in providing exclusivity? Which beers and wines are similar to my top sellers but would provide a higher profit margin? What potential customers can I connect with and message saying that I have discovered and added a new beer or wine they are certain to enjoy? How can I import or enter my beer or wine menu/inventory to one place and have it automatically publish to leading internet sites like Yelp and OpenTable? How can I connect with people that would enjoy my beer and/or wine list and let them know what I have? How can I discover trends in the marketplace before my competitors? How can I build the perfect inventory to meet my customers’ needs and maximize my profit margins? 1 2 3 4 5 7 6
  10. 10. How does Next Glass help the Brewery or Winery? What areas in the country have a high concentration of people who would enjoy my beer or wine? How does my pricing compare with beers and wines of similar taste? What restaurants are seeking exclusivity with a small brewery or winery and currently sell beers or wines that are very similar to mine? What consumers would enjoy my beers or wines? And how can I connect and message them to let them know that I can ship directly to them? What highly rated and award winning beers or wines are very similar in taste to mine? How can I advertise directly to restaurants, consumers, and merchants that have a high probability of purchasing my beer or wine? 1 2 3 4 5 6
  11. 11. How does Next Glass monetize its offering? Next Glass will monetize its operations through user-prompted advertisements (similar to Google AdWords) by grocers, brick & mortar stores, online merchants, and breweries / wineries. Advertising throughout the platform will consist of highly-targeted, clickable display ads that match specific criteria (see figure on right). There are also opportunities for businesses to directly message users that are certain to enjoy their beers and wines.
