Next Glass was founded in 2012 on the premise of using science and software to ensure beer and
wine drinkers never taste another bad beverage.
The Company is cataloguing the taste profiles of tens of thousands of bottles of beer and wine by
chemically extracting the “DNA” of each to develop the world’s only Genome Cellar™.
These pure and objective taste profiles are combined with sophisticated machine-learning software
and user preference data to create an incredibly accurate recommendation and discovery engine,
similar to those of revolutionary companies like Pandora, Netflix, and Amazon.
Next Glass partnered with the David H. Murdock Research Institute to conduct
preliminary tests to validate the concept.
Using data produced from DHMRI’s initial tests, Next Glass was able to determine
which instruments generated data useful in making recommendations to users.
How does the Science work?
Together, these instruments produce tens of
thousands of unique chemical biomarkers
which Next Glass’ machine-learning algorithms
use to produce accurate beer and wine
recommendations for users.
Next Glass’ laboratory and beer and wine
storage facility are located in the new
MARBIONC building at the UNC-Wilmington
CREST Research Facility.
How does the Science work?
As with Next Glass’ science, in order to validate the
accuracy, repeatability, and overall effectiveness of its
software, the Company retained and collaborated with
Sean Owen, a world renowned expert in machine-learning.
Sean has worked as a senior engineer at Google, has
written books on machine-learning, and was the Lead
Committer of the Apache Mahout project.
Next Glass also won entry into the selective Kaggle Startup
Program, which will allow some of the world’s best data
scientists to collaborate with the Company as it continues
to refine its existing algorithm.
How does the Software work?

How can I connect with people that would enjoy
my beer and/or wine list and let them know what I have?
How can I discover trends in the marketplace
before my competitors?
How can I build the perfect inventory to meet my customers’
needs and maximize my profit margins?
How does Next Glass help the Brewery or Winery?

of people who would enjoy my beer or wine?
How does my pricing compare
with beers and wines of similar taste?
What restaurants are seeking exclusivity with a small
brewery or winery and currently sell beers or wines that
are very similar to mine?
What consumers would enjoy my beers or wines?
And how can I connect and message them to let them
know that I can ship directly to them?
What highly rated and award winning beers or wines
are very similar in taste to mine?
How can I advertise directly to restaurants, consumers,
and merchants that have a high probability of purchasing
my beer or wine?
How does Next Glass monetize its offering?
Next Glass will monetize its operations
through user-prompted advertisements
(similar to Google AdWords) by grocers,
brick & mortar stores, online merchants,
and breweries / wineries.
Advertising throughout the platform will
consist of highly-targeted, clickable

(see figure on right).
