Geography Teaching Today Website <ul><li>“ The main portal for geography teachers” </li></ul><ul><li>New KS3 resources – very successful ! </li></ul><ul><li>CPD materials </li></ul><ul><li>Extension of GA handbooks </li></ul><ul><li>Averaged around 1000 visitor sessions a day over last 12 months. </li></ul>
  2. 3. Young People’s Geographies <ul><li>Now in its 3 rd year. </li></ul><ul><li>A ‘conversation’ which involves students in designing the curriculum – schools from Nottingham, Norfolk & London </li></ul><ul><li>Next phase to extend to Sheffield and the North East </li></ul>
  3. 4. “ Making Geography Happen” <ul><li>A new project which will follow groups of students to explore how geographical understanding develops </li></ul><ul><li>Working with teachers to explore the progression that occurs between key stages, and how teachers can ensure that work exceeds expectations </li></ul>

Enhancing local networks Secondary Networks <ul><li>Making the most of the contacts made in first phase to ‘follow-up’ </li></ul><ul><li>Introducing virtual / social-networking to engage & support teachers </li></ul><ul><li>GA Ning and NQT Ning launched Sept 08 – also plans for more ‘virtual’ conferences. </li></ul><ul><li>Tapping in to the ‘social web’ </li></ul>
  5. 6. Ambassadors <ul><li>RGS-IBG organised scheme </li></ul><ul><li>Undergraduates visit schools to run workshops and advise on courses and careers </li></ul><ul><li>Over 900 ambassador visits, and over 400 schools visited </li></ul><ul><li>Very positive feedback from schools involved </li></ul>
  6. 7. Chartered Geographer <ul><li>Professional recognition for teachers and those involved in geographical education e.g. GIS professionals </li></ul><ul><li>Linked to CPD: status dependent on continued internal/external CPD points being earned </li></ul>

Quality Mark Primary and Secondary <ul><li>Linked directly to SEF and SIP </li></ul><ul><li>Linked to professional development for all members of the geography department </li></ul><ul><li>“ Primary Champions” and Secondary “Centre of Excellence” extension to the marks </li></ul><ul><li>Online support materials available </li></ul>
  8. 9. TDA Materials <ul><li>Being written for GTT website with funding from the Training and Development Agency. </li></ul><ul><li>Focus on CPD through the model of Adopt, Adapt, Innovate - a staged approach to professional development </li></ul><ul><li>Units written by GA and RGS-IBG </li></ul>
