Women in Science and Technology <ul><li>Training </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In the Paris Region, only 37% of girls opt for a scientific degree. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Employment in the university sector </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In 2005, 34% of researchers were women, this percentage is slowly increasing. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Employment in the private sector </li></ul><ul><ul><li>In private research, 20% of researchers and 29% of technicians were women. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Entrepreneurship </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Women account for 27% of all entrepreneurs. In IdF region only 1 company out of 4 is created by a woman. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>There are 3 types of brakes : prejudice and culture, working environment and career </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>“ the glass ceiling” is at work </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Initiatives : </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The regional action plan in apprenticeship on the agreement for equality between girls and boys on issues such as gender-related images of the self and the professions . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Exhibitions « L’apprentissage au féminin ». (Woman in apprenticeship). </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Companies or professional groups ( Metallurgy Industry and Employment Union, Building Federation) are looking to recruit more women. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Associations including « Femmes&Sciences » (Women and Science) and the Association for equality in science and technology jobs. </li></ul></ul>Unité Développement
    3. 3. <ul><li>Entrepreneurship and access to financing </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Women account for 29% of entrepreneurs in the IdF region. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Mainly in the service sector (79,5%) with local customers. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Half of it are small limited-liability companies. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Private life and access to financing </li></ul><ul><ul><li>14,9% of women against 28,9% of men declared they had the support of their partner whilst creating their business. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Social economy and access to financing </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The social and solidarity economy accounts for 374,000 jobs (men or women) </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Initiatives : </li></ul><ul><ul><li>France business Angels facilitate the financing for the creation of a business. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>IRFED EUROPE offers assistance/training modules to unemployed migrant women who want to create their own businesses in order to return to work . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>France Active Île-de-France manages the FGIF (i.e. financial guarantee scheme for female entrepreneurs) implemented by the Regional Delegation for Women's Rights : local network, financial support for jobs in solidarity economy. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>L'Atelier - an Île-de-France social and solidarity economy resource centre is open to all (both men and women) . </li></ul></ul>Women’s access to financing Unité Développement
    4. 4. <ul><li>Career development and job security </li></ul><ul><ul><li>36.1% of women in the Île-de-France region work in the public sector, compared to 20.8% of their male counterparts . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Especially in the fields of education, health, social welfare and public administration(75%). </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In the administrative authorities, four times as many women than men work part-time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Health and well-being </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Women account for 58% of cases of musculo-skeletal disorders (MSD) . </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Abilities and skills development </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Women pinpoint abilities considered as being typically female (multi-tasks 78%). </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>But there is a « glass ceiling » for management jobs. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Work-home life balance </li></ul><ul><ul><li>More than 62% of regional officials on parental leave are women . </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Pay gap </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The wage differential or g ender pay gap was of 12,8% in the ile de France regional civil service in 2007. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Initiatives : </li></ul><ul><ul><li>On January 13, 2011, a bill related to the equal representation of women and men on Boards of Directors and Supervisory Boards and to equal access to employment was passed by the French National Assembly . </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>At the Île-de-France Regional Council, financial assistance for childcare is available to officials who work staggered hours up to 70% refundable. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Nationally, the law dated 23/03/2006 calls for the elimination of pay gap between women and men within five years. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The &quot;Equal Access to Employment Seal of Approval&quot; (“ Label Egalité professionnelle ”) issued by AFNOR has been recognised as a sign of &quot;best practice&quot; by the European Commission since April 2010. </li></ul></ul>Working conditions in the public sector Unité Développement
