1.Check Sheet
A Check Sheet is a simple document that is used for collecting
data in real time and at the location where data is generated.
Purpose
• How often are certain events happening
• Making information collection easy from data (Format).
2. Cause and Effect Diagram (Ishikawa)
• Barnstorming and root cause finding technique
• It shows the relationship of all factors (cause) that lead to the given
situation (effect).
• It identifies major causes and breaks them down into sub-causes
and further sub divisions
Purpose
• Identifies various cause affecting a process
• Help group in reaching a common understanding of
problem
3. Process Flow Chart (Stratification)
• Bird’s eye view of the actual process
• A Flow Chart is a type of diagram that
represents a process step by step with the
help of various kind of box shapes and
connecting these with arrows.
• Gives an idea, about conversion of input
into output
• Identify the value added and non – value
added activities
Purpose
• It gives a visual representation of process
• Identify the Steps and Material needed
for the process.
• Help in quickly analysing the process
4. Pareto Analysis
• Combination of bar chart and line graph
• A bar chart that helps to prioritize action by arranging elements in
descending order of occurrence.
• Bar chart presents the actual data in descending order
• Line graph presents cumulative data in ascending order
• Based on 80-20 rule
Purpose
• Sort out the “vital few”
from the “trivial many”
• Separates important
from non-important
causes contributing to
a problem
5. Control Chart
• A control chart is a line graph used to display variation on time
ordered interval in process.
• A centreline and control limits are placed on the graphs to help
analyse the pattern of data
• Maintain the process variation within control limits
Purpose
• Control chart indicates whether a process is in control or
not
• It ensures product quality level
• To identify the dynamic or special causes of variation in a
repeating process
6. Scatter Diagram
 Scatter diagram is a tool used to study the possible relationship
between two variables.
• One is independent on X axis
• Other is dependent onY-axis
 Forecast the future trend on the
basis of current relationship b/w two
variables
Purpose
• Diagram makes it clear whether a relationship exists and
shows the strength of that relationship.
• If data are scattered very close to trend, it show strong
relationship otherwise it is weak relationship.
7. Histogram
• A Histogram displays the
variation with the process, also
called a frequency distribution
• Vertical rectangular bars
showcase the frequency of data
• Present the large amount of data
Purpose
• To show the Frequency distribution of set of
measurements.
• Allows one to quickly visualize what is going on within a
large amount of data.
In conclusion
 PFC gives the bird eye view of the actual process and helps in
finding the troubles spots in the process
 CS confirms the physical presence of the defects and defectives
 H showcase the large amount of the data in graphical format
 PC prioritizes the vital few instead of trivial many issues
 C and E diagram helps in finding the possible causes for a problem
 SC confirms the relationships b/w two variables
 CC signifies the process variation and give warning when data go
beyond control limits

Pareto Analysis • Combination of bar chart and line graph • A bar chart that helps to prioritize action by arranging elements in descending order of occurrence. • Bar chart presents the actual data in descending order • Line graph presents cumulative data in ascending order • Based on 80-20 rule

  • 15. 6. Scatter Diagram  Scatter diagram is a tool used to study the possible relationship between two variables. • One is independent on X axis • Other is dependent onY-axis  Forecast the future trend on the basis of current relationship b/w two variables
