  1. 1. COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY
  2. 2.  Colon hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic, colon irrigation, is a method of removing waste from the lower part of the large intestine without the use of drugs.  It is a gentle way of introducing temperature regulated and highly filtered water (particle filters, carbon filters, and ultra violet light, at Petaluma Healing Arts) into the colon.  As the water softens the waste matter, it is loosened resulting in elimination through natural peristalsis (the wave-like muscular action the colon uses). This process is repeated throughout the session. COLONIC HYDROTHERAPY
  3. 3. WHY SHOULD THE COLON BE CLEANED?  A healthy colon absorbs water and hosts good bacteria that produce vitamins, such as K and some B vitamins. A healthy digestive tract helps support a healthy immune system.  The colon has been referred to as the sewer system of the body. It is the place where we store the waste material that most of us would rather not think about and most of us don't until our health becomes poor due to accumulated congestion in the bowel. This waste material, especially that which has remained in the colon for some time, (i.e. impacted feces, dead cellular tissue, accumulated mucous, parasites, worms, etc.), poses several problems.  First this material is quite toxic (poisonous). These poisons can re-enter and circulate in the blood stream making us feel ill, tired or weak.  Secondly, impacted materials impair the colon’s ability to assimilate minerals and bacteria- produced vitamins.  Finally, a buildup of material on the colon wall can inhibit muscular action causing sluggish bowel movements, constipation and the results of these disorders.
  4. 4. COLONICS vs. ENEMA vs. LAXATIVES  The colon is approximately five to six feet long. To clean out the lower part of the colon, enemas will suffice. But, that leaves about four feet of colon.  An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon (the sigmoid) whereas with colon hydrotherapy, the full length of the colon (the large intestinal tract is approximately 3 to 5½ feet in length) is reached.  Colon hydrotherapy is many more times effective as a result in helping evacuate the entire bowel.  Laxatives relieve constipation by interfering with the colon's ability to eliminate normally on its own. The chemicals contained in laxatives irritate and stimulate the colon to abnormally contract to expel the irritating substances most laxatives and purgatives precipitate dehydration in the individual.
  5. 5. BENEFITS OF COLON HYDROTHERAPY  It cleanses the colon by flushing out toxins and other bad bacteria which are detrimental to good health.  Helps the good bacteria to grow.  Encourages weight loss and helps in long term weight management.  It hydrates the whole body which correspondingly increases the blood’s volume. As such, blood circulation is increased resulting to a more efficient cardiovascular and circulatory systems.  Removes mucoid plaque build-up on colon walls inhibiting absorption  Removes intestinal parasites from colon  Detoxifies the body; water ingested in colon hydrotherapy baths the entire inner organs and organ system washing away toxins
  6. 6. INDICATIONS  Inflammatory bowel disease and chronic constipation.  Skin problems like acne and eczema.  Arthritis and joint, muscle pain.  Bronchial asthma.  Chronic fatigue.  Insomnia, headache and stress.  Acid reflux and Poor appetite  Acne, Psoriasis and Eczema  Weight issues  Bad breath Body odor  Premenstrual difficulties
  7. 7. CONTRAINDICATIONS  Diverticulitis,  Ulcerative colitis,  Crohn’s disease,  Aneurysm  Severe Anemia  GI Hemorrhage/perforation  Diverticulitis  Severe Hemorrhoids  Cirrhosis  Carcinoma of the Colon (Colon Cancer)  Fissures/Fistulas  Advanced Pregnancy  Abdominal Hernia  Recent Colon Surgery  Renal Insufficiency
  8. 8. PRECAUTION BEFORE AND AFTER THE COLON HYDROTHERAPY SESSION  Drink a lot of water and other fluids the day of the session time.  No eating 2 hours before the session time.  No drinks 1 hour before the session time.  Take an enema the night before your colon cleanse  No coffee, tea, carbonated drinks or red meat .  It is good to have a small snack consists of vegetables, fruits and fresh juice after the end of the session..
  9. 9. SESSIONS Each individual is different and may require or desire different amounts. Many physicians suggest twelve sessions over a ten week period DURATION Approximately 20- 45 minutes
