There were 2 queens in this period  Queen Elizabeth I (r.1558- Queen Mary I (r.1553- 1603) succeeded her sister 1558), Elizabeths sister, Queen Mary and adhered believed passionately in to the Protestant religion the Catholic religion and and restored persecuted Protestants Protestantism as the who were burned alive official religion. She for their beliefs did, however, firmly believe that people should be allowed to practice the Catholic religion without fear of recrimination so long as it presented no threat to peace in the realm and her rule over England
  3. 3. When Elizabeth I ascended to thethrone she banned the performancesall religious plays and stories (except in Church) to help stop the violence over religion.
