  5. 5. The religion of India The largest religious group in the Republic of India is Hinduism which makes up about 80% of the population. There are two other religions began in India: Buddhism and Jainism . Another religion found in India is Sikhism, which makes up about 2% of the population. Islam makes up about 12% of the population, which is the second largest religion in the country. Christianity only makes up about 2.5% of the population.

  9. 9. Mahatma Gandhi What did Mahatma Gandhi do to make him a Hero? Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October, 1869 in Porbandar. Gandhi was a hero in that he brought about civil rights for Indian immigrants in South Africa. He also brought about liberation of India from British colonial rule.

Gandhi helped indians regain some respect in their own land and slowly the indians regained power. Gandhi hated fighting, and told his followers that if they were hit by the british or anyone else, to just take the beating rather then fight back.
