Reflection on being part of religious clubs

  1. 1. Mary Gabrielle “Gabbie” Santos Member of the Lectors and Commentators Club and Marianettes for 3 years 6-St. Gabriel Blessed to have served Him First and foremost, I would like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to be part of the Lectors and Commentators Club and the Marianettes for I was given the chance to offer my gifts and talents to serve the Lord and praise Him. I would also like to thank Ms. Maricon Dioneda for guiding our club to become closer to God. Being part of the Lectors and Commentators Club and the Marianettes has been such an honor for I was able to strengthen my faith both in God and in Mother Mary. Whenever I am low, I am able to stand up again for being part of these clubs has made me a spiritual warrior. It is more than just a club for me, it became part of my life and daily activities already. I am very blessed to have been chosen to serve as a Commentator in several masses throughout my tenure in the SERVIAM club. I have learned so much from the Lectors and Commentators Club. First of all, I have realized that despite our age, the Lord appreciates our efforts in
  2. 2. serving Him. We are used to seeing adults being the commentator or a reader in a Mass yet from this club we get to understand that as long as we are willing to use our talents for Him and not for us, we can serve in a Mass. Secondly, I have learned that when you read a passage or a Scripture, you must not merely read it aloud. You must read it with your heart and understand it for as we proclaim the Word of God we are doing our duty which is to reach out to others and to nourish them spiritually. Thirdly, I have learned that we should offer our talents to the Lord. We are given the gift of communication for a reason—to spread the Good News of the Lord. The things we have learned from the Lectors and Commentators Club are lessons that will stay with us forever. These lessons will not be forgotten when we leave SPCM. These lessons will continuously shape us into a Christ-centered person. Even when we grow old, we will still be able to live them out by reaching out to others through our service in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. More importantly, whatever I have learned from commentating has helped me realize that it's true essence is in living it out in our daily life- that is what truly matters. As my mother is a Marian Devotee she named me “Mary Gabrielle” for a reason. “Mary” for Mother Mary and “Gabrielle” for Angel Gabriel, the angel who told Mary that she is to bear the Lord. Because of this I was completely interested and drawn to the Marianettes Club. Being a part of the Marianettes has been a very great experience for me, it has really opened me up to being a Marian Devotee. We were taught the significant events in Mother Mary's life. Not only that, we were taught to live out the virtues of Mother Mary. We were taught to fully trust in the Lord's will like what she did when she was confronted by the fact that she will bear the Lord. We were also given the opportunity to serve in masses by collecting the offerings of the mass goers. During my tenure in the Marianettes, I was able to understand where Mother Mary was coming from. She was a simple girl in a simple town until one day she learned that she was chosen to be the bearer of the Savior of the World. From this, I learned that we may not be chosen to have such a prestigious position yet we can do simple acts which show our belief and trust in the Lord.
  3. 3. I can say that being part of these two clubs has truly molded me into a spiritual person. I am deeply honored to have been part of these clubs and I will strive to live out all the teachings we have earned. I am truly blessed to have served Him through being part of these clubs.
