Inventory Data Pruning
• Why is Inventory Data Pruning required ?
– Inventory Data occupies large portion of ZENworks database
– Based on the Inventory Schedule this data can grow very
quickly
– Impacts database performance and thus ZENworks
performance
• What is pruned ?
– Only unreferenced Inventory records
– Prunes tables that holds
– Inventory data
– Inventory history
– Application / Web / Network Usage

– Automated maintenance of Inventory Data
– Settings to govern age of the Inventory Data to be persisted
– Ability to override the settings at Folder or Device level
– Ability to schedule the pruning activity

Macintosh Inventory Collector
• Feature highlight
– New Macintosh Inventory Collector built over system_profiler
– Built using Java, hence the same Collector runs on all Mac
platforms
– Designed using system_profiler grammar, making it easy to
support newer Mac platforms
• Inventory on Mac Managed Device
– The Inventory Collector on Mac currently uses the legacy
native collector which would now move to the new collector

Macintosh Inventory Collector
• Inventory Only Agent (IOA) for Mac
– The new IOA Agent for Mac will leverage the cross platform
agent infrastructure and will use this new Inventory Collector
to report Inventory
– No more dependency on Rosetta (like Mono in the Mac
world). Hence the newer Mac platforms will now be supported

Add Hardware Components
• Why is this required ?
– If any hardware product has not been reported in the Inventory
Report after the Inventory scan, you can use the Add
Hardware feature to manually add a hardware product for a
device
– If any hardware is not connected to the network (e.g. Stock
Room), records can be maintained here
• What can be added ?
– Common hardware components
– CD/DVD Drives, Disks, USB Devices, Printers etc.

Add Remove Programs Integration
• Feature highlights
– Inventory collector on Windows will additionally look into Add
Remove Programs while collecting software Inventory
– Ability to (optionally) report all the MSIs installed on the device
– Will help improve the Software Inventory quality for a Windows
Managed Device
– Removes complete dependency on fingerprinting
– Software Inventory today is based on the fingerprint definitions that is
released as part of the Monthly PRU
– Though 300-500 fingerprints are added in a month, it is not enough to
support all the software released around the world

Add Remove Programs Integration
• How it works
– The Software Inventory collected from a Windows device will
be a reconciled list of software recognized using the
fingerprints AND the software reported from the Windows Add
Remove Programs
– Software found only in the Add Remove Programs will be
reported as a new Product
– Reconciliation will be done based on …
– Common attributes. i.e. Manufacturer name, Product name, Version
number etc.
– Common files between fingerprint and Add Remove Programs
