2000 to 2011 were coastal disasters.
– Extreme events enhanced by sea-level rise from climate
change will become a key concern for urban and regional
planning along the coasts of the world.
• 4.2 Integrated Risk Governance and Financial Markets
– Find ways for financial markets to become engines of
sustainable investment and green growth.
• 4.3 Integrated Risk Governance and Green Growth
– Infrastructures of critical importance for green growth.
– Risks of misplaced and mismanaged investments in
infrastructures.
Future plan (2016-2020)
• For Dynamic Planet – Coastal Zone
– Research to integrate natural and social science
models for better understanding of the mechanisms
leading to very large-scale disasters and related
vulnerability, exposure and risk distribution in social
and economic processes.
– Risks associated with complex dynamics of the trends,
variability and extremes of climate change at global,
regional and local scales.

– Develop new governance models based on the
concept of consilience? which integrates
• the responsibilities and rights of stakeholders

– Take advantage of
• state-of-the-art theories on complex dynamic systems
• fast developments in ICT, such as big data and cloud computing
– Coordinate scientists and other stakeholders to develop
decision-making toolboxes to help international, regional,
national and local policy makers in addressing the
challenges of disaster risks by establishing new, effective
patterns and processes of integrated risk governance.

Future plan (2016-2020) • For Dynamic Planet – Coastal Zone – Research to integrate natural and social science models for better understanding of the mechanisms leading to very large-scale disasters and related vulnerability, exposure and risk distribution in social and economic processes. – Risks associated with complex dynamics of the trends, variability and extremes of climate change at global, regional and local scales.

Future plan (2016-2020) • For Transitions towards Sustainability – Urban System – Take advantage of • state-of-the-art theories on complex dynamic systems • fast developments in ICT, such as big data and cloud computing – Coordinate scientists and other stakeholders to develop decision-making toolboxes to help international, regional, national and local policy makers in addressing the challenges of disaster risks by establishing new, effective patterns and processes of integrated risk governance.
