  3. 3. With Support from WHAT IS GEN & WHAT IS THE GEN SUMMIT The GEN Summit is the leading news conference gathering over 700 editors-in-chiefs, academics, news executives, and media innovators from over 70 countries, to address the current trends, issues, and actionable insights regarding journalism of today and tomorrow. 90 speakers will take the stage this year to discuss the theme ‘Towards a VVV challenge: V for Voice, V for Visual Journalism and V for Verification’. The Global Editors Network is the worldwide association of editors-in-chief and senior news executives. It is committed to media innovation and sustainable journalism, empowering newsrooms through programmes dedicated to data journalism, media literacy, blockchain and artificial intelligence. GEN seeks to define a viable vision for the future of news.
  5. 5. With Support from This year, our profession needs to overcome a VVV challenge: Voice and Voice AI are obvious topics for 2019. All the editors who we met in the last six months have become captivated with smart speakers. Visual journalism – and video – will be our second challenge. We are re-entering ‘the golden age of video journalism’, even if the ‘pivot to video’ strategy failed for some media organisations. Verification - rather than just producing news, journalists today must verify and control what happens on social media. The accumulation of fake information is undermining our democracies.
