10. • We can’t just sit back and enjoy the show.
• We need to become active members of
the audience.
• The way our movie ends is dependent on
our actions.

11. Featuring Data as the narrator… it
tells the story of our school.

12. 1st Day of School is “Action!”
1st Day of School is “Action!”
Last Day of school is…. “That’s a Wrap!”
•The 180 days in between are the scenes of our movie played out
on a daily basis.
•We need to make everyday and every interaction with students
count.
•We need to be intentional in everything we do – data based
decision making is essential to our movie’s success.

13. Who is the Director?
• The principal is the director, but also has an
actor role.
• He or she guides and serves all the actors
and is rarely in the chair.
• “Cut!” can be shouted by the director or any
of the actors when something isn’t going right.
Interventions or instructional practices
implemented may not be working.
• We need to “Take 2” and try again
immediately.
• It’s too late after the final scene and the movie
has ended.

14. Every good movie has three
elements…
1. A great storyline – Our storyline centers around our students and
the unique experiences they bring with them.
2. Quality actors – Part of the director’s job is to bring out the best in
his/her actors. Helping teachers improve their instructional
practices is one part of an administrator’s job.
3. A happy ending – Our goal as educators is to prepare our students
for their next step. Whether it be the world beyond high school or
moving onto 1st grade, we want them to be ready at the end of the
school year.

15. Behind the Scenes…
• This work is just as hard as being in front of
the camera.
• It is where we prepare for the work we do
everyday in the classroom.
• Meeting in PLCs and reviewing the data
from multiple measures: standardized &
formative assessments, demographic data,
discipline records, etc.
• Data based decisions are collectively made
by all cast members (director, actors and
supporting actors).
• What interventions are working? What isn’t
working? What needs to happen next?

16. There is a script, but
it is not set in stone…
• A SIP is created as a staff – a plan for how to reach the
vision we have for our school.
• The SIP is a living document and should be reviewed and
adjusted as the needs of the school change.
• Student growth goals stem from the SIP and follow the same
process.
• During PLCs, necessary data is reviewed and more plans
are made, but the lines of each character depend on the
needs of the students being served, the resources and the
instructional practices implemented.

17. As a cast…we need to work together!
Student Growth Goals – Nested Goals
Growth Measure 8.1:
Team develops student growth goal and methods of measurement. Each
teacher collects classroom data to contribute to team data.
Growth Measures 6.1 & 6.2:
Uses team growth goal for collecting data from entire class.
Contributes data to the team.
Growth Measures 3.1 & 3.2:
Uses same team growth goal and collects data
for an identified, struggling subgroup.

18. Who is in the Spotlight?
We all are – staff and students!!
As an administrator, I am committed to
helping teachers and staff:
Identify ways to reach higher standards and
correct significant discrepancies
(Danielson)
Identify affective instructional practices
Use multiple measures of data in an effort
to improve student achievement
Provide students with a positive and
culturally responsive learning environment

19. How our movie ends is
dependent on our ability to:
• Let data tell the story
• Collaborate effectively
• Create a culture of trust and
support
• Keep our focus on students
• Build relationships with parents
and the community
>> 0 >> 1 >> 2 >> 3 >> 4 >>
20. We want students to feel as though
they are important. They are the stars
in their own movie.
• We need to be their support,
emotionally and academically.
• We need to show them the benefits of
perseverance.
• We want students to leave our school
with the necessary skills to create
their own ending.
• We want every child to feel as though
they got the “golden ticket” to their
future and no one can take that away
from them.
