  18. 18. 19 © 2019 FUJITSU The Customer – Financial Regulator ‘’ Our mission is to deliver public value by making sure the financial markets work well for individuals, for business, and for the economy. ‘’ Martin Bellamy , CIO FCA
  19. 19. 20 © 2019 FUJITSU The Customer – Financial Regulator • Regulating the conduct of more than 58,000 UK businesses. • Prudential regulator for more than 18,000 of these businesses. • Responsible for regulating a sector which plays a critical role in the lives of everyone in the UK. • children’s ISAs • Pensions • direct debits and credit cards • loans and investments UK financial services employ over 2.2 million people and contribute £65.6bn in tax to the UK economy.
  20. 20. 21 © 2019 FUJITSU FCA Challenges • To be an effective regulator, FCA technology needs to keep pace with industry, those they regulate and be ahead of those who wish to commit harm • FCA needs to continue to embrace change, and to be able to do so at an ever- faster rate. • FCA Exadata platform underpinning their critical services was reaching its end of life • Based on business criticality, it would be considered outside of the FCA’s risk tolerance, due to lack support, and potential cyber security vulnerability through lack of patching to ‘Not Do Anything’ – not an option!
  21. 21. 22 © 2019 FUJITSU Partnership & Trust
  22. 22. 23 © 2019 FUJITSU Partnership Challenges • The Oracle relationship with FCA was strained ;- • High ongoing spend not viewed as delivering value • A number of support agreements moved to 3rd party • And then FCA had an ‘AWS Policy’ for Cloud • Oracle recognised they needed to change the way they engaged with FCA to rebuild the relationship • FCA held separate isolated conversations with Fujitsu as Service Integrator, and Oracle as the Technology supplier.
  23. 23. 24 © 2019 FUJITSU Change in ways of Working • FCA instigated joint conversations between Fujitsu , Oracle and FCA • They needed Fujitsu and Oracle to work effectively together, as it was neither Fujitsu nor Oracle who could do this without the other. • What was really needed was a 3-way co-creation process that could create a sense of openness, trust and transparency. • Ultimately, FCA wanted an enterprise managed service, that would meet the business need, supported, security patched, and delivered quickly. Not a technology solution. ‘’Speed was of the essence, in order to realise the ROI. ‘’

  34. 34. 35 © 2019 FUJITSU Key Takeaways 1. 3 way collaboration workshops - key to the success of the whole programme was the bringing of all parties together Fujitsu ,FCA and Oracle and ensure collaboration from the start. 2. Alliance Management – Partner managers in Oracle and Fujitsu were a key steering mechanism when things go off the rails 3. Executive Engagement – key in overcoming some difficult commercial issues and discounts we needed to secure the deal. Commitments to CIO were important. Built trust – and also gave the new CIO a “personal win” 4. Demonstration of Fujitsu value – as a Managed Service offering. Take away the pain, manage the relationship. Everyone knows Oracle can be complex to work with, but it can be used to Fujitsu advantage 5. Execution across Fujitsu – 1 month from decision to closure! Everyone got behind the deal
