Copyright 2018 FUJITSU  NVM Express (NVMe) is an protocol/interface made public in 2011 to connect non-volatile memory over the Peripheral Component Interconnect express (PCIe) bus to the CPU, without requiring special vendor specific drivers.  Latency and overhead is significantly reduced and it does allow a massive parallel operation.  Originally developed to be used in servers only, meanwhile NVMe is available in desktops and laptop as well with the M.2 interface.
