To continue the brilliant achievements of 『Bio Taiwan 2003』, we zealously prepare
for the series of activities of 『Bio Taiwan 2004』 with no slack.
『Bio Taiwan 2004』is a large-scale biotechnological activity driven by Advisory
Committee for Promoting Biotechnology Industry of Executive Yuan. It will be held
in July 2004. And July is considered as the month of biotechnology in Taiwan from
『Bio Taiwan 2004』will hold kinds of international grand meetings in biotechnology
as usual. We expect to establish the communicative convention between
biotechnological industries and venture capital, and quickly achieve the objectives of
『Action Plan for Biotechnology Industry, Executive Yuan』which proclaimed "the
turnover of Biotech industry will be brought up to 25% annual growth in the next 5
years and bring in 150 billion NT dollars investments; over 500 biotech companies
will be founded within 10 years."
The Biotech Exhibition is the most important event for 『Bio Taiwan 2004』activities.
It has been held in 4 consecutive years and the scale increased progressively.
Nowadays this annual activity has become the most popular, professional Biotech
show in Pacific Asia. From the impetus of international exhibitions, we expect to
motivate the interaction of biotechnology between Taiwan and international countries,
to increase our international competence.
The applauds from public support both at home and abroad, and the great
endorsement from the government, associations, and R&D institutes, has become our
motive power to persuade perfectly. We're honored to devote our full strength and
resources these years by pushing the Biotechnology in Taiwan.

Results & Feedbacks
This year, Bio Taiwan Exhibition 2003 has stepped into its fourth year and this annual
activity has become the largest professional biotech fair in Taiwan. In accordance with
the government's mission to promote Taiwan's biotech industry, we have devoted our
full strength and resources to organize such exhibition in the past three years.
The preparation of BioTaiwan 2003 was once slowed down during those 2 months
when SARS epidemic was influencing every citizen's life in Taiwan. However, the
exhibition in fact had greater number of exhibitors and booths than that of the year
Industrial Development Bureau, MOEA's "Bio Taiwan 2003 Pavilion" (64 booths)
and Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan's "Bio Agricultural Science Pavilion" (48
booths) were two main pavilions of the exhibition; both were organized by the central
committee: Department of Health, Executive Yuan, (6), Ministry of Finance,
Executive Yuan, (6), Council of Economic Besides Planning and Development,
Executive Yuan, (4), Local Government's Pavilion: Taipei City Government (24),
Kaohsiung City Government (16), and Tainan County (16), there were more pavilions
which were established by institutions and universities.
The four-day-exhibition have attracted 58,031 visitors. There were 210 exhibitors
in 516 booths, including 30 pavilion and 16 conference sessions. Enthusiastic
participations of government organization made this exhibition the largest
professional Biotech show in Asia.
The Tainan County Pavilion showcased how the local government ingeniously
leveraged local characteristics in the development of its biotech industry.
Compared to year 2002, we have more involvement from research institutions this
year: National Taiwan University, National Chung Hsing University, National
Defense Medical Center, Kaohsiung Medical University, National Sun Yat-Sen
University, National Cheng Kung University, National Pingtong University of Science
&Technology, National Chia-Yi University, Tatung University, Southern Taiwan
University of Technology, Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Services. These
research institutions are representatives to demonstrate the development of Taiwan's
biotech industry and the versatility of Taiwan's R&D capability.
The twin-cloned goats are the mascot of the fair this year. The popularity they have
received were no less than the cloned pig Cubi introduced in the last year's exhibition.
With two consecutive years of success, the goal of the exhibition is not only to
stimulate the interaction and communication among domestic and international
biotech community members, but also to educate the public about biotechnologies,
the industry and the future of it."
"Taiwan Biotech Pavilion" mainly was designed as a public education zone following
the tradition of "Popular Science Education" from previous years' exhibition. The
educational activities initiated publics' incentive in learning biotech knowledge; we
believe through creative ways of passing information to the audience and active
interactions with them would accelerate Taiwan's Biotech Education.
