When I tell other folks about the PADI Zombie Apocalypse Diver specialty course, the reply I usually hear is "what the heck is that?" Well this presentation explains the goofy awesomeness of the ZAD course, what the class is about, who might want to take it, and who might want to hold off.

  8. 8. Who is the class designed for? Somebody who loves and I mean freaking LOVES zombies! Somebody who wants to try something really fun and different. Somebody who’s looking for a fun way to get back into the water (possibly after an extended absence)

  11. 11. ZAD Classroom During class we cover: Zombies throughout history Methods of infection Government stance on zombies Treatment of the infected Scavenging and resource reclamation Tetrodotoxin’s use in zombification Zombie related sign language
  12. 12. ZAD Open Water Dives • Open Water Dive 1 – Teams of 4 divers • Team member 1/4 • Underwater Defender • Keeping zombies at bay with Torrid Pulse underwater (bubble) gun • Defend other members of your team
  13. 13. ZAD Open Water Dives • Open Water Dive 1 – Teams of 4 divers • Team member 2/4 • Underwater Scavenging • Assemble and surface floatation device built out of random parts • Bring materials needed for the very survival of humanity to the surface • Situational awareness • Task Overloading

ZAD Open Water Dives • Open Water Dive 2 – Team Tasks • Underwater Communication • User your newly acquired zombie signs to communicate • Well now it’s time to bust it out and communicate with the survivor you just found • Keep it quiet as zombies are both curious and hungry and love to look for sources of noise!

ZAD Open Water Dives • Open Water Dive 2 – Team Tasks • Underwater Rescue & Escort • This skill will scale to the training level of the team • Escort your survivor to the surface • Escort back to shore • Perform first aid (ya know, just in case there’s a giant freaking bite mark on him) • Be ready to “take care of him” if he happens to turn
  20. 20. ZAD Wrapping Up • Once we’re back on shore the team will work through their first aid scenario and we prepare for graduation from the Zombie Apocalypse Diver course! • We always like to check for infections. Sometimes we get lucky. Usually not tho 
