CoderDojo is a global network of clubs that teach young people in areas specializing in computer programming and computer technology. Bill Liao and James Whelton founded CoderDojo[4] in 2011[5] as a not-for-profit organisation that teaches children how to code. It aims to teach them creative problem-solving skills and practical creative skills and was launched in Ireland in mid-2011. The first CoderDojo took place on 23 July 2011 in the National Software Centre in Cork.[6][7] By February 2012, there were twelve CoderDojo around Ireland.[8] September 2012 saw the first CoderDojo open in Silicon Valley in California[9]In addition to teaching, they hope to allow children who know how to code to meet others with similar interests and work on projects with their peers around them, similar to how a co-working space[clarification needed] works, but less formal.[citation needed]
