FOURSIS E- CORNER
Human Resource Quote
"Leadership is not magnetic
personality that can just as
well be a glib tongue. It is not
"making friends and influenc-
ing people", that is flattery.
Leadership is lifting a per-
son's vision to higher sights,
the raising of a person's per-
formance to a higher standard,
the building of a personality
beyond its normal
limitations."
-Peter F. Drucker

MANAGEMENT WORD OF THE WEEK
Activity Based Working
Activity Based Working (ABW) is a transformational business strategy that provides
people with a choice of settings for a variety of workplace activities. Rather than
forcing individuals to undertake all their work at one setting, such as a fixed desk or
within a designated cubicle, ABW seeks to encourage people to physically locate
themselves where it is most suitable for them to complete their work. Spaces are de-
signed to create opportunities for a variety of workplace activities from intense, fo-
cused work to impromptu and informal meetings or more formal meetings.
History of Activity Based Working
The first known reference to an activity-based analysis of office work modes was by
American architect Robert Luchetti from the late 1970's. He co-invented the now
widely accepted concept of the office as a series of "activity settings" in 1983. In an
activity settings-based environment, multiple settings are provided which have differ-
ent technical and physical attributes assembled to support the variety of performance
"modes" that take place in a work environment.
The term Activity Based Working was first coined in the book, the Art of Working,
by Erik Veldhoen, a Dutch consultant and author of the book The Demise of the Of-
fice. ABW was first implemented by Inter police in the nineties in the Netherlands

Recent recruitment trend
Poaching / Raiding
Poaching means developing it. "Purchasing ability" (as opposed to creating
it) is the most recent mantra being trailed by the associations today. Poaching
implies utilizing a skilful and experienced individual officially working with
another presumed association in the same or distinctive industry; the associa-
tion may be a rival in the business. An outsourcing association can draw in
gifted applicants from another association by offering alluring pay bundles,
advantages, reward and different terms and conditions, superior to the pre-
sent business of the organization. It comes as a challenging task for HR man-
agers to face and tackle poaching by other organizations, as it weakens the
competitive strength of the firm and trustworthiness
Advantages of Poaching / Raiding:
1. Employing competent and experienced person, who already working in
another reputed company.
2. New Employer ready to give attractive packages, better than the current
employer.
