Sea Turtle Nesting on Fort Myers Beach

  1. 1. It’s Sea Turtle Nesting Season on Fort Myers Beach<br />

Begins on May 1st and lasts through October 31st<br />At the beginning of each summer, sea turtles visit us to nest on Fort Myers Beach<br />A couple of months later small, baby hatchlings make their way to the Gulf of Mexico<br />It is very important for these baby turtles to make it to the Gulf of Mexico – each year thousands do not<br />Bay to Beach Resort is doing it’s part to make sure that these baby turtles make it to the Gulf<br />Seat Turtle Nesting Season<br />
  3. 3. Here are a Few things that you can do to help during your stay at Bay to Beach Resort…<br />
  4. 4. Lights<br />Turn off/shield all lights that shine onto the beach- including lanai lights<br />*Lights discourage females from coming ashore to lay their nest<br />Bay to Beach has changed all Lanai bulbs to a yellow low wattage bulb<br />
  5. 5. Fort Myers Beach<br />Remove all beach furniture from the beach by 9:00 PM <br />Do not put out any beach furniture before 8:00 AM<br />Bay to Beach has removed the Teak Chairs from the beach for turtle nesting season, but don’t worry- we have folding beach chairs for you to use during your stay!<br />
  6. 6. Sea Turtle Nests<br />Please do not disturb any nests that you find on Fort Myers Beach<br />
  7. 7. Turtles & Lights<br />Please keep in mind never to use flash photography or shine a light on a sea turtle<br />
  8. 8. Turtle Hatchlings<br />If you find a turtle hatchling on Fort Myers Beach during the daytime, please place it in a dry container & call 239.481.5566<br />
