  14. 14. FAST SEARCH INSTALLATION
  15. 15. Installing FAST Search• Use the deployment guide, available @ Microsoft: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/det ails.aspx?displaylang=en&id=3343• Deployment guide does not cover all steps / exceptions
  16. 16. Installation order• SharePoint• Office Web Apps• FAST Search• Updates for SharePoint, OWA en FAST Search• Installing OWA after FAST Search will break the installation (especially the thumbnails)• Installing the December 2011 CU for FAST will break the thumbnails preview function
  17. 17. Installation notes (1)• Do not install SharePoint Server 2010 and FAST Search on the same server. (Except for demos and SharePoint Saturday)• Both standalone and server farm installations of SharePoint Server 2010 can be used with FAST Search.• To enable FAST Search functionality on SharePoint Server 2010, you must have an Enterprise License on SharePoint Server 2010.
  18. 18. Installation notes (2)• Reduce number of CPU-cores to a maximum of 4, otherwise it will not install• You can do this via the msconfig-command.
  19. 19. Laying the ground work• Create users and define permissions• Verify that Windows Firewall is turned on on all servers in the FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint farm• Make sure that IP addresses are static• Turn off automatic Windows updating• Disable automatic adjustment of daylight saving time (DST) and synchronize clocks between servers• Configure anti-virus configuration• Configure proxy settings
  20. 20. Installation• Enable powershell scripts to run remote (Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned)• Install FAST
  21. 21. Configuration of FAST
  22. 22. Configuration notes (1)• Use fully qualified names (FastDemoServer.corp.demo.com) and <Domain><username>• Use install_info.txt file for finalizing the installation
  23. 23. Configuration notes (2)• Check installation with “nctrl status” (FAST Search Shell) – Note: This will ONLY work with the user under which FAST Search is installed !• Check the managed properties (under Central Admin, Query SSA, Managed Properties) – Note: The user of the AppPool under which the Central Admin is running needs to be added to the FAST Query SSA Administrator Group.• Check if SSL-certificates installed correctly

  28. 28. DEMO: FAST SEARCH SCOPES
