Key findings from the executive summary include: • across the ten countries in question, the total value of the consumer automotive finance and leasing market in 2011 broke down between USD 123.4 billion in gross advances and assets leased attributable to new cars, and USD 58.7 billion attributable to used vehicles; • this market has nearly doubled since 2007 as underlying car sales have risen, especially for new cars; • across all ten countries, dealers worked with an average of 3.03 finance and leasing providers, split between 1.18 tied providers and 1.92 non-tied providers although the average number of providers ranged from a low of 1.49 in South Korea to a high of 4.96 in Brazil; • consumers’ preferences for using credit also vary greatly by country: in 2011, over 60% of new cars were bought using point-of-sale finance and leasing in Brazil, India, Indonesia and South Africa, compared to less than 20% in China and Taiwan.
