The Greenhouse Effect

  1. 1. Energy from the sun reaches the earththrough radiation. As the earth is warmed, heat in the form ofinfrared radiation is radiated back into space. However, much of this radiation is preventedescaping into spaces by greenhouse gases.THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT :D
  2. 2. Greenhouse gases include :- Carbon Dioxide (CO2).- Methane (CH4).- Chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs).- Nitrous Oxide (N2O).
  3. 3. As a result, the infrared radiation is radiatedback to the Earth’s surface, warming the earthfurther. The phenomenon is known as the greenhouseeffect. It’s similar to a greenhouse used infarming in countries which experiencetemperate climates.
  4. 4. The glass of a greenhouse allows light toenter but retards the loss of heat. The heat isused to keep the soil and air warm in thegreen house. The greenhouse effect caused by :- human activities.- burning of fossil fuels.- deforestation.
  5. 5. The increasing amount of greenhouse gasesincreases the greenhouse effect causing moreheat to be trapped in the atmosphere. TheEarth’s average temperature increases isknown as “global warming”.
  6. 6. Effects Of The Greenhouse Effect :DMelting of polar ice and glaciers causing a risein sea level.Intense rain in some regions.Leads to greater climate changes like strongwinds & heavier rainfall.Desert areas increase in size.
  7. 7. Steps To Reduce The GreenhouseEffect :DReduce the burning fossil fuels.Reduce the deforestation.Practice replanting the trees.Reduce or stop open burning.Develop other sources of energy such as solar, wind and geothermal energy.
