Let me separate business model from vision. The original vision of Groupons was changing the world through collective actionThe business model is group coupon enablement – but it took them a few years to get from vision to viable business model. My advice is that after you do your homework, you should have a pretty clear idea of what works and what doesn’t. Not to say it won’t change, but you should at least have a plan that should be viable from the get goGive yourself a path…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
There is No substitute for talking to your customers. You can’t outsource it, delegating it is a bad idea. Get out of your jammies and just go do it.People talk about “stealth mode” and NDAs and protecting the IP… but the fact is, if you have such a great idea, ten other people have too… While you are protecting, they are doingOvercome your fear. Do what scares you most.whoever executes best, wins and you will not execute well if you don’t sell your idea even before you write a line of code
So this is what I actually did. I first pitched the idea to an old friend and an amazing thing happened. He said he wasn’t sure about my idea but said I should go talk to all his referring physicians about it while marketing for him.Not to say this works for everyone, but you never know what will happen when you pitch. If you have an inspirational vision, people will offer interesting options.Be ready.
I’ll be honest. Our first Design both visually and as a business?Docs Did not respond well. Frankly, they hated it.The scales, the pile of money, too cheesy, too crass, totally wrong.More importantly, they were not comfortable posting their actual direct-pay fees online. Legal and business practice decisions make a 1 price approach non viable. We stuck to our vision, but added in
Be careful to not lose the original vision. Once you stray too far from your source of inspiration you lose your mojo, your drive, your secret sauce.Perfect example.Based upon the suggestions of our clients, FairCareMD is now also a great marketing systemBased upon our design and generosity with our google juice, we do amazing things for our provider’s SEOBut if we forget we are a marketplace intended to enable people and providers to meet and agree on fees that are fair to both, we are just another marketing company
People do things for love or money, but if you have to choose one, go with loveWhen you talk about your impossible idea you will find people want to help you if you have inspired themThese are the only people you want to hire at first
It is time to begin building…
Perhaps it is sad, but one of my favorite bits of advice comes right off the shampoo bottle:Instructions: Lather, Rinse, RepeatSo simple, yet so true.Of course, only repeat the steps you have toIn particular, keep listening to your customers
So , if we have time I can show you the results of this process
