The EGVI PPP in Horizon 2020 December 2013: launch of the European Green Vehicles Initiative PPP in Horizon 2020 involving the automotive, smart systems and smart grids industries Implemented by three ETPs (ERTRAC, EPoSS, SmartGrids) in order to: ► Deliver green vehicles and mobility system solutions matching major societal, environmental and economic challenges ahead ► Impact on the innovative strength and global competitiveness of the European economy Based on successful experience of the Green Cars Initiative: ► 3 pillars: Electrification, Long Distance transport, Logistics & Co-modality ► EU contribution to the initiative reached € 418 million – and a total budget of € 662 million ► 4 calls have been launched out of which 113 projects have been funded – gathering 1379 consortium partners (10,8% being SMEs) ► 2/3 of the budget has been dedicated to electrification 2

Help to reach the ambitious targets set by the EU transport, energy and climate protection policies: ► the 20/20/20 targets on renewable energy use, ► the CO2 emissions regulation, ► the Euro emissions standards, contributing to air quality improvement Support the policy goals of the EU Transport White Paper thanks to accelerated research, development and demonstration of technologies. Match the Grand Societal Challenges (e.g. decarbonisation, safety …) and the transport needs. Research, development and demonstration of technologies to enable more energy efficient vehicles, strengthening the future competitiveness of the automotive industry, following the CARS 2020 Strategy and contributing to the discussions of the new GEAR 2030. Align our objectives with the ones of the Energy Union Strategy and contribute to diversify and strengthen energy options for sustainable transport (SET-Plan Action 7) General Objectives of the EGVI PPP 3

EGVIA batteries related calls 2016/17 GV–13-2017: Production of next generation battery cells in Europe for transport applications To evaluate the most promising next generation of Li-ion or post-Li-ion-systems … in the very near future … identify potential challenges in the manufacturing process … give Europe a competitive advantage … Develop new production technologies … generic enough to show reduced dependency on a specific chemistry … to support industrial partners GV-06-2017: Physical integration of hybrid and electric vehicle batteries at pack level aiming at increased energy density and efficiency (in the continuity of GV.1-2014) GV-07-2017: Multi-level modelling and testing of electric vehicles and their components 14
