  4. 4. OTARIO HUMAN RIGHTS CODE People who are harassed because of gender identity are legally protected under the ground of “SEX”. THIS INCLUDES-  Transsexual  Transgender  intersex persons  Cross sex.
  5. 5. TYPES OF GENDER IDENTITY TRANSSEXUAL  People whose life experiences existing in more than one gender.  People who is living outside the gender categories of “men” or “women”. TRANSGENDER People who were identified at birth as one sex , but who identify themselves differently. who have undergone 1 or more medical treatments like sex reassignment surgery.
  6. 6. INTER SEX People who are not easily classified as “male” or “female”. Based on their physical characteristics at birth or after puberty. this word replaces the inappropriate term “HERMAPHRODITE”. CROSS SEX A person who are emotional & psycholgical well being , dresses and clothing usually associated with the “OPPOSITE SEX”.
  7. 7. SOCIOLOGICAL GENDER The society makes vary differences between men and women . such as culture ,tradition ,limitations ,challenges & boundaries of their living standards. Categorizing males & females into social roles creates barriers in which individuals feel they have to be at one end of a linear spectrum & must identify themselves as man or woman. Although the specific nature & degree of these differences vary from one society to the next, they typically favor the men, creating an imbalance in power & gender inequalities in all countries
  8. 8. PHILOSOPHER SAYS Western philosopher Michel Foucault claimed that as sexual subjects , humans are the object of power , which is not a institution or structure , rather it is signifier to complex strategical situation. because of this , “power” is what determines individual attributes, behaviors etc. Eg. Female characterizes one as a woman , & a being a women signifies one as weak , emotional, irrational & is incapable of action attributed to a “man.”
  9. 9. SOCIAL ASSIGNMENT & IDEA OF FLUIDITY  Gender is the result of socially constructed ideas about the behavior, action & roles a particular sex performs. The beliefs values and attitude taken up and exhibited by them is as per the agreeable norms of the society and the personal opinions.  DISCRIMINATION & HARASSMENT- Discrimination because of gender identity is any action based on a persons sex or gender, intentional or not, that imposes burdens on a person or group. Harassment is a form of discrimination. it includes comments , jokes , name –calling ,or behavior or display of pictures that insults or offends or puts you down because of your gender identity.
