  2. 2. Page 2City Enabler for Digital Urban Services CEDUS - The Project • City Enabler for Digital Urban Services (CEDUS) is an EIT Digital Cities Activity providing the “City Enabler” (CE), a FIWARE based software solution aimed to organize scattered urban data coming from a number of public and private city (data) providers and build new reusable map-based urban services • The solution is currently being tested in Province of Trento (IT), Municipality of Málaga (ES) and Municipality of Rennes (FR) • Negotiations are being held with other European cities. In 2018, the plan is to reach Technology Readiness Level 9 and launch it into the market. 6/12/17
  3. 3. Page 3City Enabler for Digital Urban Services6/12/17 • City Enabler detects data providers in the city and provides City Managers and Companies with tools to easily integrate the data and exploit them in map-based urban services
  4. 4. Page 4City Enabler for Digital Urban Services CE Main Functionalities • City Data collection and Metadata quality assessment: existing Open Data platforms, Web services, devices (i.e. sensors), legacy systems and IoT Platforms. Support in the creation of the “City knowledge” • City Data Integration: Possibility to graphically integrate data coming from different data sources and wrap any kind of data structure in FIWARE Data Models • Fast creation of new map based Urban Services and visualizations: Creation of domain specific urban services relying on the data collected 6/12/17
  5. 5. Page 5City Enabler for Digital Urban Services City Data Workspace • Single point of browsing and access to the real-time data coming from various sources 6/12/17 • Register data sources: Open Data Platforms like CKAN and SOCRATA, Web services, Legacy systems, IoT platforms • Access all the data through standard APIs • Browse the data collected and perform multilanguage search (eurovoc vocabulary integrated) • Measure the quality of data collected
  6. 6. Page 6City Enabler for Digital Urban Services IoT Device Manager • Registers “push” and “pull” sensors, gathers data and stores them in the City Data Workspace 6/12/17 • Devices registration and monitoring • Different kind of devices supported (parking, pollution, lights, etc.) • Active and passive devices supported • Mapping between urban services/scopes and sensors supported
  7. 7. Page 7City Enabler for Digital Urban Services City Data Mashup Editor • Graphically integrates and wraps data in the City Enabler 6/12/17 • Mapping of data structures (e.g. device data, open data) in standard NGSI v2 format • Data coming from different datasources can be graphically mashed up in order to produce linked data • Linked data can be stored in the City Data Workspace
  8. 8. Page 8City Enabler for Digital Urban Services CE Front End • Creates and consumes urban services (e.g. Parking, Mobility, Air, quality control, Waste management, Tourism, Safety, Facility Management) for city managers and citizens 6/12/17 • Scopes (e.g. customers) and urban services (e.g. verticals) management • All the registered devices/sensors and data collected in the City Data Workspace can be monitored and visualized • Real time data visualization • Assisted statistics charts creation • Easy replication of existing urban services from one city to another (no city lock in) • Exploitation of city data collected on map based applications
  9. 9. Page 9City Enabler for Digital Urban Services Data Interpreter Tool • Creates interactive visualizations and KPIs through the usage of data collected in the City Data Workspace 6/12/17
  10. 10. Page 10City Enabler for Digital Urban Services Málaga Scenario 6/12/17 Málaga Municipality is one of the smartest Spanish municipalities. Malaga publishes more than 720 data sets in its Open Data Portal to make data available for citizens and businesses and to provide greater transparency to a better municipal management and planning of resources. In addition to the Open Data Portal, Málaga has a FIWARE based platform “Thinking Cities”, owned by the municipality and operated by TID. It is a requirement of Málaga city administrators, that the CE Front End consumes the data from the Context Broker of this platform.

  21. 21. Page 21City Enabler for Digital Urban Services CE Main Benefits 6/12/17
  22. 22. Page 22City Enabler for Digital Urban Services CE Competitive Advantages • City Enabler is fully compliant with OASC (Open & Agile Smart Cities) principles: 1. Open to other platforms through standard APIs (Application Program Interface) 2. Portable and replicable from one city to another, ensuring independence for vendors and full access to the local digital ecosystem • Easy access & visualization of content • Data collected, centrally organized and exploited • No data duplication • Single Collaborative Environment to exploit urban data • Multi-domain approach • Urban ecosystem engagement 6/12/17
  23. 23. Page 23City Enabler for Digital Urban Services Conclusions and Next Steps • Nowadays City managers often are not aware about the power of data already available in their cities • The great amount of data at urban scale coming from different data providers require tools for automatic detection of available data sources • Stakeholders (citizens, companies, developers, etc.) have difficulties to know how to exploit the data available and transform city knowledge into valuable business insight • Data with low quality are not useful • 2018 plans: • Improved Do It Yourself capabilities • Include a module for automatic detection of data sources, searching from the web 6/12/17
