FHSU can’t be aninstitution of the future by remaining an institution of the present.None of us want to see FHSU become the “Lehman Brothers” of thehigher education industry. Thus, the core driver of the Red Ballooninitiative is courageous faculty---faculty who accept the idea that“incremental innovation” is an acceptable way to change and competefor the future---a future that doesn’t arrive by dramatic, sudden leaps,but by trying to make things better on a daily basis. Toyota developedincremental innovation as an approach, but it’s not just a businessprinciple; it’s a principle of excellence and a way of navigating whatRoger McHaney calls the “new digital shoreline” in higher education.
