MASSCOTE is a step-wise procedure for auditing performance of irrigation management, analyzing and evaluating the different elements of an irrigation system in order to develop a modernization plan. The modernization plan consists of physical, institutional, and managerial innovations to improve water delivery services to all users and cost effectiveness of operation and management. MASSCOTE is founded on a rigorous on site approach of the physical water infrastructure (canals and networks) and introduces service oriented management as a normal practice, Land and Water Days in Near East & North Africa, 15-18 December 2013, Amman, Jordan

Mapping System and Services for Canal Operation Techniques

  1. 1. Information session I7: MASSCOTE Day I - Sunday 15 December Time: 14:30 Venue: Room Yaquot MApping System and Services for Canal Operation TEchniques MASSCOTE is a step-wise procedure for auditing performance of irrigation management, analyzing and evaluating the different elements of an irrigation system in order to develop a modernization plan. The modernization plan consists of physical, institutional, and managerial innovations to improve water delivery services to all users and cost effectiveness of operation and management. MASSCOTE is founded on a rigorous on site approach of the physical water infrastructure (canals and networks) and introduces service oriented management as a normal practice. The MASSCOTE aims to assist technical experts, irrigation managers and more broadly irrigation professionals, in seriously addressing modernization needs, issues and challenges, analyzing all the associated details, and embarking upon the difficult road of modernization or reengineering of irrigation management of medium to large irrigation canal systems, with practical and detailed objectives, plans and solutions. This one-hour event will provide an opportunity to get acquainted with this tool developed by FAO and used in a growing number of countries. It will also provide an opportunity among participants to share experiences of how practitioners in different countries/institutions, face the complexities of preparing a modernization plan for an irrigation scheme. Agenda: 14:30 – 14:55 14:55 – 15:30 Introduction to MASSCOTE by Giovanni Munoz Sharing of experiences and discussion Additional information on MASSCOTE, including the complete methodology and application examples can be found at: www.fao.org/nr/water/topics_irrig_masscote.html
