Case StudyExtended Content SolutionsColt Case Study“I am really pleased that we have built colt.netbased on the customer journey and not on ourinternal organisation.I am also really excited by the contentmanagement system that we are using which hasreally made a massive difference to the flexibilityand speed in which we are able to publishcontent.”Carl Robertson, Chief Marketing Officer, Colt1 ChallengeColt began its Digital Vision Project to improve the platform resilience andperformance, make publishing content easier and devolve publishing to the businessusers. The main objectives were to produce a standard set of templates, aconsolidated content model and a consistent publishing process used by its publicfacing website and its internal content management system. The projectincorporated Colt’s public facing website (Colt.net), its content management system(CMS) and its portal website.2 SolutionECS analysed the existing content, templates and taxonomy before creating amapping of what material could be reused, consolidated or was required in the newenvironment. From this understanding, ECS was able to reduce the number oftemplates by eliminating duplication and enhancing performance of selectedtemplates to extend their use.Migration activity for Colt.net was accelerated through the use of ECS automatedcontent migration tools. These tools enabled Colt to easily reuse existing text andimages from its 13 language sites in the new platform.3 OutcomeECS helped Colt to consolidate its metadata from 150 fields to 60 fields, standardiseits web templates to reduce them by more than half and reduce publishing time ofweb content. The project simplified and enhanced the previous platform in regardingcontent creation, website maintenance, reliability and performance.
