Faculty national clinical programme for pathology

  1. 1. Royal College of Physicians of Ireland Frederick House 19 South Frederick Street, Dublin 2 Telephone: +353 1 863 9700 Facsimile: +353 1 672 4707 Website: www.rcpi.ie 05 January 2011 Dear Fellows, I am very pleased to inform you that we have just received agreement from Dr. Barry White, National Director of Quality and Clinical Care, Health Service Executive to establish a National Clinical Programme in Pathology. As you are aware over 20 such programmes have now been established jointly between the College and the HSE and it is appropriate that the integral role of Pathology across all of these programmes is now to be addressed in a programmatic manner. The Pathology programme will be established in accordance with the governance structure and process already agreed between RCPI and the HSE. In the short term this will require (a) the joint appointment of a National Clinical Lead for Pathology and (b) the establishment of a Clinical Advisory Group. I would like to acknowledge the central role played by Dr. Gerard Boran former Dean of the Faculty in progressing this initiative. We are working very closely with Mr. Leo Kearns, CEO, Royal College of Physicians of Ireland to ensure that this programme is established in line with precedent. I expect to be in a position to provide you with further detail early in the New Year. Yours sincerely, Prof. Conor O’Keane Dean Faculty of Pathology, RCPI Registered Charity in Ireland Ref. CHY1897
