A scout executive with the Boy Scouts ofAmerica for more than 15 years, EthanDraddy currently serves as executive andCEO of the Baltimore Area Council. As such, he oversees a 70-member staffas well as a 65-member Board ofDirectors and approximately 15,000leaders and other volunteers.
An engaging and high-interest trainingprogram, the University of Scouting strives tocreate highly qualified commissioners,leaders, and other “Scouters.” Students at the University work towardincreasing levels of certification, beginningwith the universitys bachelor’s degree.Students must complete seven credits in anysubject area to receive this credential andthen may go on to study toward a mastersdegree, a doctorate, and ultimately a FellowAward. Available only to participants at the BaltimoreArea Councils university, the Fellow Award isgiven to those scouting doctorate holderswho design and teach a university course.
The university not only teaches thetechniques and information necessary tocreate a positive scouting experience foryouth but also helps participants to morefully understand the goals and mission ofthe organization as a whole. Classes are designed so that Scouters ofany experience level can learn and growin their commitment to serve scoutingyouth. Patches and certificates indicatecompletion of each individual level, whicha Scouter can then proudly display to theyouth under his charge.
