Esstech DSS Silanated Glass Overview

 1. 1. Esstech Inc. 48 Powhattan Avenue Essington, PA 19029 610-521-3800 / 1-800-245-3800
 2. 2. What is DSS™ Silanated Glass?

Recognizing the wide-spread use of silane-treated silicate glass in the Dental Restorative Industry, Esstech has responded with a product line that improves upon traditionally available materials.

The DSS Advantage:

Ideal hydrophobicity

Targeted monolayer of silane

Reproducible silane content

Large batch sizes for lot-to-lot consistency

Competitive pricing

Established inventory and quick turn-around

Flexible process with customized capabilities

 4. 4. Analysis of coupling agent

Traditional analysis reports silane levels as the calculated amount of silane added in the initial formulation. Esstech uses both quantitative and qualitative methods of measuring the actual silane that is bound to the glass surface.

Quantitative:

Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) measures bound silane while differentiating from residual moisture via thermal cycling of the sample.

Qualitative:

The “Float” test demonstrates that all glass particles have been coated. Properly treated particles will remain hydrophobic and float on the water surface

Failure indicates incomplete surface coverage &/or bonding failure, which will translate into composite properties

 5. 5. The DSS Advantage

The correct application of silane to dental glass goes beyond preventing settling and improving ease of mixing. When properly bound, silane coupling agents transfer strength between your glass and polymer phases thereby improving the mechanical strength of your composite.

Avoid over- or under-silanated materials, long lead-times and discontinued product lines…

And contact us , to receive materials that are made to match your needs.

Samples for evaluation are available, email [email_address] to request yours today.
