Pastor’s Pen
I do not know if you are a "Proverbs" fan or not, and as for myself, I do find that I read other Scripture passag-
es before flipping to the Book of Proverbs.
Yet, once there, Proverbs offers some great teachings! One of my favorites comes from Proverbs 3, verses 5
and 6; which reads: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your
ways, acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
Sounds like a simple instruction, but don't let it fool you, trusting in the Lord and not in ourselves is often a
difficult thing to do. I am not sure why, but I think it has to do with control. When we only trust in ourselves,
our own perspectives, and our own point of view - we actually lose the opportunity to be open to what the Lord
has to say to us. It is an error to think that we know all that is going on, for God is always working behind the
scenes of our lives, and the results are often not revealed until a later time. At least, that has been my experi-
ence. How about you?
Perhaps today is a good day to refresh the Holy Spirit that dwells within us by praying this simple prayer;
"God, help me to trust you more!"
Then, retreat in the peace of knowing that God Is For Us and that God Has Got Us!
In Christ's Love,
Pastor Linda
2. We had a great week of learning and growing, fellowship and fun at
our “Friends of God” Vacation Bible School from July 17-21! Seventeen
children participated, hearing stories about friends of God from the Old Testament
and learning that God created each child and wants to be their friend! Our service
project for the week was to bring in small bottles of dish soap to include in our
grocery give-away bags on July 24.
VBS staff included: Co-Directors: Linda Lockwood (stories/lesson, science, games) & Marie
Senften (music, crafts, snack plan); Bryan and Frances Stuck (snack preparation, service and
clean-up); Kameryn Swanson (youth helper); Pastor Linda (anything needed, including doing crafts
with the 4 & 5 year old kids!). Thank you to this dedicated group and thank you to everyone who
supported VBS in prayer, financially or brought in dish soap, and to Larry & Evelyn Hinson for
providing ice cream and sprinkles for one of our snacks. Also big thank you to Nate Lockwood
for live-streaming the Thursday evening program so folks could see it at home if they couldn’t
attend and so we could share their music during worship on July 24.
The week was a blessing for all of us who spent it with this beautiful group of God’s children!
BIBLE BUDDIES for kids ages 4– grade 6, as well as youth helpers, will begin for the new school
year on September 11. It will be held on the 2nd Sunday of each month from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Watch for more information in the September ECHO.
A newsletter will be mailed to families at the beginning of September with a calendar of kids’
activities for the coming year. It will also be available in the office.

It is hard to believe that I just had my last Sunday, at Epworth and my last Sunday as
pastor of a church after 50 plus years of ministry! The six years here went by too quick-
ly! Beryl and i have really enjoyed getting to know all of you and working with you. You
all are a true blessing and are serving Jesus in many ways. We will miss you! You all
will be in our thoughts and prayers as you continue to serve along with Pastor Linda.
Thank you for the gifts and the ways in which you honored us on my last Sunday. May
God continue to guide and bless you!
