  1. 1. Using the Library Catalog Searching by Subject
  2. 2. Step 1 Select “Subject” from the drop-down menu.
  3. 3. Step 2 OType your subject term into the search box. For example: OHistory ODolphins OCommunication OShakespeare, William
  4. 4. Subject Headings OThe results page will be a list of subject headings. For example, if you searched ‘History’: OHistory—United States—Civil War OHistory—Great Britain—19th Century OSelect the subject heading that best describes what you are looking for.
  5. 5. Results Page OBrowse the list of results. OClick on an item’s title to view information specific to that item (the Item Record).
  6. 6. The Item Record O Location and Status: If the location is “Aiken” and the status is “Available”, you can check it out. O Call Number: Corresponds to the book’s location on the shelf. You will either need to: O Write down the Call Number O Send it to yourself as a Text Message
  7. 7. Finding the Item OAsk someone at either the Reference or Circulation Desks to show you how to find an item on the shelf. We’re happy to help!
  8. 8. Checking Out Items OOnce you’ve found the item you’re looking for, you can check it out at the Circulation Desk, using your student ID card.
