  1. 1. Using the Library Catalog Searching by Keyword
  2. 2. Step 1 Select “Keyword” from the drop-down menu.
  3. 3. Step 2 O Type your keyword(s) into the search box. For example: O History O Global Warming O Feminism O Dolphins
  4. 4. Refining Your Search O You may have to try different keywords to find the specific information you’re looking for. Try using synonyms and/or related terms. Global Warming, for example: O Synonyms: Climate Change, Greenhouse Effect, etc… O Related Terms: Pollution, Fossil Fuels, Carbon Dioxide, Renewable Energy, Automobiles, etc…
  5. 5. Results Page O Browse the list of results. O Click on an item’s title to view information specific to that item (the Item Record).
  6. 6. The Item Record O Location and Status: If the location is “Aiken” and the status is “Available”, you can check it out. O Call Number: Corresponds to the book’s location on the shelf. You will either need to: O Write down the Call Number O Send it to yourself as a Text Message
  7. 7. Finding the Item O Ask someone at either the Reference or Circulation Desks to show you how to find an item on the shelf. OR O You can view our tutorial here: hyperlink!
  8. 8. Checking Out Items O Once you’ve found the item you’re looking for, you can check it out at the Circulation Desk, using your student ID card.
