  2. 2. State Bureau of Statistics 3 FACTS AND FIGURES ABOUT EKITI STATE 2019 FOREWORD The importance of Statistics in planning, monitoring and evaluation cannot be overemphasised because no meaningful development can take place without appropriate statistical data to measure performance and monitor progress or lack of it. In Ekiti State, a number of past policy initiatives had failed for lack of inadequate statistics for tracking their implementation. In order to avoid a relapse into the past, the present administration under the able leadership of Dr. kayode Fayemi has taken bold steps in ensuring availability of adequate, reliable and timely statistical information for policy formulation and performance tracking. To achieve this, the State Bureau of Statistics was established, headed by the Statistician General coupled with adequate budgetary provision. The measures taken so far has propelled the Bureau for effective performance and it has led to the release of some publications for planning purposes. Some of the publications are Digest of Medical and Health Statistics, Digest of Manpower Statistics, Digest of Public Finance Statistics, Digest of Transport Statistics and Digest of Local Government Statistics among others. We are also in the process of putting in place a robust e-State Data Capturing Centre to process, protect and preserve our data. This publication titled ‘’Facts and Figures About Ekiti State’’ aims at providing basic socio-economic data about the State at the beck and call of policy makers. Permit me to express my profound gratitude to Mr Governor for his support and other stakeholders for the overall level of improvement in the provision of robust statistical information in the State. Also worthy of commendation are the staff of the Bureau under the able leadership of the Statistician General for the production of this publication.
