  1. 1. SYLLABUS IN TEACHING SCIENCE IN ELEMENTARY (Physics, Earth, and Space Science)
  2. 2. Course Code SCI 2 Course Title Teaching Science in Elementary (Physics, Earth, and Space Science) Course Credit 3 Units Course Description This course includes understanding of spiraling basic science concepts and application of science inquiry in Physics and Earth and Space, strategies in teaching elementary science, development of instructional materials and assessment. Content topics in Physics include Force and Motion, and Energy while Earth and Space Science include Geology, Meteorology, and Astronomy. Contact Hour/ Week ( Lecture ) 5 hours Pre-requisite None Degree/Program Goals The BEED degree program aims to develop highly motivated and competent teachers specializing in content and pedagogy for elementary education. Program Outcomes: (Common to all programs in all types of schools) The graduates have the ability to: 1. articulate and discuss the latest developments in the specific field of practice. 2. effectively communicate orally and in writing using both English and Filipino. 3. work effectively and independently in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural teams. 4. act in recognition of professional, social, and ethical responsibility. 5. preserve and promote “Filipino historical and cultural heritage.” Program Outcome: (Common to the Discipline – Teacher Education) The graduates have the ability to: 1. articulate the rootedness of education philosophical socio-cultural, historical, psychological and political context. 2. demonstrate mastery of subject matter/discipline. 3. facilitate learning using a wide range of teaching methodologies and delivery modes appropriate to specific learners and their environments. 4. develop innovative curricula, instructional plans, teaching approaches, and resources for diverse learners. 5. apply skills in the development and utilization of ICT to promote quality, relevant and sustainable educational practices. 6. demonstrate variety of thinking skills, in planning monitoring, assessing, and reporting learning processes and outcomes. 7. practice professional and ethical teaching standards sensitive to the local, national, and global realities. 8. pursue lifelong learning for personal and professional growth through varied experimental and field-based opportunities.
  3. 3. Program Outcome: (Specific to the Bachelor of Elementary Education Program) The graduates have the ability to: PO1 demonstrate in-depth understanding of the diversity of learners in various learning areas; PO2 manifest meaningful and comprehensive pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) of the different subject areas; PO3 utilize appropriate assessment and evaluation tools to measure learning outcomes; PO4 manifest skills in communication, higher order thinking and use of tools and technology to accelerate learning and teaching; PO5 demonstrate positive attributes of a model teacher, both as an individual and as a professional. PO6 manifest a desire to continuously pursue personal and professional development. Program Outcome: (Common to a horizontal type – professional institute). The graduates of professional institutions demonstrate a service orientation in one’s profession. Course Outcomes At end of the course, the student must have: CO1 demonstrated in-depth understanding of spiraling basic science concepts and application of science inquiry in Physics, Earth, and Space Science. CO2 employed varied teaching strategies in teaching Science in the elementary level. CO3 designed assessment tools in assessing learning Science in the elementary level.
