This project has received funding from the [European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 723970 In order to exploit the main benefits of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), the aim is to develop CNG-only (monofuel) engines able to comply with: q post Euro 6 noxious emissions q 2020+ CO2 emissions targets q new homologation cycle and real driving conditions with simultaneous improvement of engine efficiency & performance, adopting: q Innovative injection, ignition and boosting system concepts q Advanced exhaust gas after treatment system q Detecting gas-quality and composition GasOn project: Objectives (1/2)

Vehicle ready for transient calibration. 5) Controls & calibration refinement for fuel efficiency, emissions & drivability ongoing. WP3 - Advanced boosting & variable compression ratio for downsized CNG engines

This project has received funding from the [European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 723970 GasOn project: Results according to the Objective #3 1) CNG Direct Injection system designed & 1st prototypes fabricated 2) Gas mixing process before combustion was optimized via 3D numerical modeling and validated on single cylinder engine 3) Competed development of the combustion & air path systems on single cylinder and prevalidation on 1st multi cylinder engine 4) Completed development & fabrication of 4 multi cylinder engines, including final injection system 5) Completed aftertreatement development and pre-validated for diluted operation with EGR 6) Multi cylinder complete engine tuning at dyno optimizing performance and fuel economy started 7) Vehicle demonstrator : Design storage system, engine and subsystems installation ongoing WP4 Charge dilution (internal & external EGR) and exhaust gas temperature management (CNG DI engines)

This project has received funding from the [European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 723970 GasOn project: Expected impact Expected Outcomes: Sectors of application: Automotive OEMs and suppliers N. 72 Deliverable reports N. 26 Milestones N. 3 demo vehicles with integrated technologies (direct injection of CNG, innovative air management, high compression ratio, advanced boosting, CNG fuel quality sensor) and stoichiometric or lean combustion Innovative combustion concepts and advanced exhaust gas after treatment system. Expected exploitation: New generation of extremely efficient CNG engines. Expected impact: Tank to Wheel Greenhouse gases (CO2) mitigation among 16% and 25% on NEDC cycle vs. current best in class.
